Wintry Machine Learning Mauler 1/30-2/1

The difference between South Forsyth and North Forsyth along 400 in North Georgia is jarring. This is only a difference of about 15 milesView attachment 192588View attachment 192590
Wow! I’m near the lake in North Forsyth and we’re at 3”+ now, and it’s still coming down (sideways at times when the wind gusts; very cool to see). Roads up here were a mess when I went out a couple of hours ago.

omg it was brutal waiting. Felt like it took forever. On top of that even though it's below freezing, 28 or so, i had enough solar insolation that it took a while to start accumulating...unlike the lucky ones up north where it started at night and didn't lose a flake. I just hope i can make up for it. Wind is dead calm here, where as the wind is solidly out of the west around athens. so i'm hoping that will help. I'm closing in on an 0.75 to an inch in about 30 to 45 minutes.

I mean, this stuff on radar is just at a crawl, positive I guess is that I don't think this one is going to break up like 2009 did, but I'm seeing flashbacks of that ULL stalling on the accuweather radar for hours from then.

Also think some of the more rural towns to my southwest are going to win here. The heaviest stuff is just slipping to my south.

That sure made me feel better. Also looks to be closing in fast from the west now! But Dr Wall is prob talking about it coming in from the east so I dunno.

It do because for most of the morning if not all morning Southern Pines, Raeford, approaching Sanford they've been in a dry hole all morning much like us and now they are just now about to if not is receiving their first bout of snow

Saw that potential in NE GA for a while, had to add that yesterday on the call map, favorable location for streamer banding on the backside of the ULL, so glad it’s panning out down there ! Somebody around there could end with up to 8-9” if those small streamer bands keep training in the far western upstate/NE GAIMG_3857.png

I can’t say for 100% certain, but I can almost swear I heard distant thunder in Albemarle, NC.

Update: My neighbor said he heard it too. Still not saying for sure 100% that’s what it was but it’s hard to argue that it wasn’t

Should hit us about 1pm per speed of migration NE. It will hit well too not just flurries
Is the Triangle Squad shifting to optimism mode?? I don’t wanna keep getting hurt but also of course a big part of me wants to believe it’s gonna still happen for us (a couple of inches that is — I don’t foresee more than that)

I want you to look at it like this - it seems that a quarter inch to three tenths is possible looking at the modeling. With this column, .3 is half a foot of snow.

I went to grab coffee around 11a in Hillsborough and small flakes were coming down by the time I left an hour ago…. Yet not a single flake has made it over this way from that band yet. So I’m just struggling to have faith
