Looks like 12z GFS continues the good trends for southern LA. So close to snow too.

Well that's a new look, too bad that 1050 HP is not moving.
squeez that TPV a little more SE and E and the we push the front more for GA and Carolinas as well
850’s are way too far north.

Cold gets here late in NC which makes sense when you look at the z500. As @deltadog03 also alludes to, push that vortex east just a tick faster and we have very deep & cold CAD in place prior to this storm.

Round 2 is coming as well. Stronger energy with the PV in a good spot. Let’s see what it does.
right! We need that further SE a bit more so we push CAD in for us before this gets close enough for sure....but would take this trend for now as well.
Very likely too cold but good to see the colder trend.

Do so and we are right back to the GFS 12Z run on 02/03 LOL.
So many ways for things to go right or heartbreak after day 5. Let's just keep in mind we have some of the coldest air in years up north to work with. Details to come!
That is the same feature in the southern stream that was oh so close for all of us on last night's 00Z GFS. Slightly different setup with the fickle TPV and it was a boom for many on this board.

Very likely that is too cold. So, to avoid later disappointment and be more realistic, I’d assume that cold is overdone.
Of course we don't want the damaging ice, but it's nice to see a storm (again) under 7 days.

The good thing is the ice amounts are not catastrophic like a lot of the Canadian runs of the past. I guess you could say it's more realistic if this solution won out:
