January will be the 3rd BN in a row at RDU. Runing right at 20 below normal for January and it's 1/4 over.
Also the thaw is onky 3 days up here and it's back BN by Saturday with a possible storm to chase early next week.
 
It sure is not a bitter look, but it defies the models 3 weeks ago for a torch by mid-month ... Some selected cities ... Pics are simply too big to load, but here's links:

Wow that’s beautiful. Maybe on tonight’s 0z runs it will start picking up on this. Since it is starting to get within 5-6 days.

It's going to be cold again next weekend, but anyone thinking it's going to be even colder than what we're just about to wrap up, just isn't thinking. Looking at the Euro/EPS city charts, the coldest it'll get might be similar but with a shorter duration.
 
Much better gfs run . I bet there will be some crazy gefs members. This run brings wintry precip into Arkansas, northern miss and West Tennessee
