Wintry January 8-9 Wintery Weather Potential!

Looks like our NW flow is about to kick in now. Been under a band flow SE to NW most of the day....but it’s hard to beat the upslope stuff. About to head north on 40 to see where it’s currently set up. Will post pics...
Going to the Newport area or west of there?

Lynchburg isn’t looking good. 42 and overcast now without much precip on the way, and it looks like their snowless streak since March 2019 may continue...

Roanoke also didn’t turn out well. Sorry to our posters there. Looks like they are getting a little snow, but they aren’t even under an advisory. EDIT: Okay, looks like 1-2”, so not too shabby. Looks like the best place to be is the northern mountains.

Asheville also seems a bit of a bust, maybe? I’m not seeing any OBS with more than 2” in the lowland area there. I see a 2.8” report on Black Mountain from this morning, but I’m sure the elevation is helping them a lot.

I am approaching a mush 2". The little band that set in never dissipated like the models said and everything backfilled. Nothing heavy but steady light snow. not sure if that heavier stuff pushing in from the SE will get hear before the whole thigs starts pulling away, but a total surprise and win as far as I am concerned.

My friend in Roanoke has a inch of snow and it’s still coming down

Okay, that’s better than I thought. I’m surprised they don’t have you all under an advisory? Looked like you all might be in line for warning criteria as of a few days ago, but glad you all got something?!

Loving what I’m seeing coming over the mtns with the NW flow. TONS to work with over here and it’s been snow since the start. Going to be a fun evening ahead it appears...and quite the surprise for this late in the day and going into the evening considering this was all supposed to be done already here.

awesome look at 7p tonight, should be great rates underneath. snow soundings down near cola too.
