Pattern January 2017 Discussion

Keep in mind that the DGEX isn't really it's own model. The DGEX is a downscaled GFS with ETA extension. It's a high resolution ETA model initialized with GFS data. So there for, the DGEX is along side of the GFS.

And from the OP runs I'd say most of that green in the upstate and eastern nc would be IP/ZR.

We seemingly can't buy any type of arctic air intrusion in Georgia this winter! However, I can't say that this shocking as areas latitudinal to our west are seemingly consistently cooler than we are in winter.

Hope it has staying power!

I'm not too worried about the SE ridge imby but I understand why some down in Georgia would be worried. Good news is that the same period looks to be really wet over the Upper South, especially the Carolinas. Along with the 8-14 day outlook seeing the ridge being beaten down overall while still being wet.

I'm headed to my hunting club in Arkansas next Thursday and would love to see the temps trending back colder like they were 2-3 days ago.

Today's (Dec 29) 6-10 Day Outlook from CPC has the largest extent of 90% prob. for below normal temps in the 15-year history of the outlook.

0z GFS is colder than 18z so far at 114. 534, 528 thickness little further south.

This is almost always the case outside of CAD areas.
