Wintry Jan 23-27 Winter Storm Obs

Just started here. ZR. oof
It's been a steady temperature right around 48 all day up until now, with a steady downpour right now. 2.20 inches in my PWS so far today. Colder temperatures just to my northwest are creeping southeastward now.

Probably about an inch out here. 15/12 mod snow. I think the sleet line will be here in 2-3 hours.

Pure sleet here in the Triad right now. I really hope I’m still saying that at this time tomorrow morning.

36/23 (wb 27) in Cumming and probably a while before any precip. But I can’t imagine it will take much to get below freezing when it starts

It is already a slick mess out here. This is going to get nasty in a hurry. Heck, it's already nasty.
Steady at 38.6/28.2. Another batch of precip getting ready to move in... I imagine this will only serve to bring the city closer to the freezing mark.

This is probably one of, if not the toughest winter storm I've ever had to forecast for in NC.Imho, predicting sleet vs freezing rain is way more challenging than trying to forecast whether you'll change from rain to snow or snow to sleet.
Not good at all to see the ZR reports this early. Hope we go back to sleet.

A little zr at my house in Huntersville.
Praying for you buddy. I have some on the SSE side of my house and an open field in front. We are sll sleeping in the central living room the next 3 nights. Hoping the predominant winds with this system help keep them off my house

I tried to tell y’all … wedges overperform at the surface, WAA overperforms in the mid levels. A lot of ZR reports already to our north
Likewise! Luckily the trees in the east side of my house have been trimmed to have their weight more toward the road, and behind me they would fall west hopefully. I had a few taken down last year for this very reason.

37.4° temp, 26.4° DP. Temp down 1.8 degrees in two hours. No precip yet, but moisture - and freezing temps - feels like be here sooner rather than later.

Massive red oak in my front yard, approximately 20 feet from the house. Parents have pin oaks on the back and front. Luckily they had theirs trimmed in the past year.

So far it looks like the HRRR is actually verifying better than the NAM on p type. That's a rarity for CAD & I hope it reverses course because we are in trouble if it doesn't

I don't like the reports of mostly rain over the upstate. We were hoping to start as sleet. I haven't looked at mesoscale but obviously we haven't cooled enough for sleet or the warm nose is already too warm. If everything we get is zr we are going to get slammed.
