How thick is the ice?
The swamp is shaded so at least an inch. I can break it but it’s too much trouble. I’ve been pruning the orchard all morning but discovered the ground is so frozen even several inches deep I can’t transplant any blackberries until it thaws later.
I saw a video of lake Winfield Scott so frozen someone walked on it and said it was 2” thick.

Thanks y’all for discussing this whole HVAC thing. It reminded me to change my air filter. My home is electric heat wishing it was natural gas. Nothing beats nat gas heat.

NTL .. I literally just changed my air filter and it was completely clogged. I have two dogs and sometimes lose site of how often its necessary. Suddenly, my HVAC is more quiet. PLEASE change your filter !!

Afraid to see my Duke Energy bill. Normally it’s under $100 even though I run my heat at 66. we’ll see ?

My home is a slab single story brick ranch only 1.800 sq ft. 1993
My house has a heat pump and it froze up two nights ago. Got down to 52 in the house after being out for 18 hours or so before it finally thawed. Kind of ridiculous…but it’s a rental so I guess I’ll just have to hope it doesn’t get that cold for that long again this winter. 🤦‍♂️

Mine ended up being a defroster sensor gone amuck. Your landlord should take care of that for you. 52 is cold indoors.

Yeah, for sure. He did come out and help to thaw it eventually, but also acted like this is normal, which it really shouldn’t be. Can’t wait to buy a more permanent home sooner than later lol.

The forecast low for CHA tonight is 30. Already hit 28/19 as of 11:15.
Last night's forecast of 23 ended up coming in at 19. Do that again tomorrow night and things get interesting.

Has gotten to 55 here now !!!( In Georgia midway between Atlanta and Athens).. warmest in last 10+ days !!!
Crazy how average temps now feel warm ! Incredible , this jan is the coldest of the century so far but next few days will warm it, could be enough to average a bit warmer than 2014 tho so it keeps the title .

Im in my shorts and short sleeves headed to softball. Windows down. Sunroof open. I might have to stop and get a margarita to-go on the way ☀️

The snow/sleet happened Tuesday night/Wednesday morning and there’s closings for TOMORROW. Nobody knows how to deal with it hereIMG_5593.png

My county was still "learn from home" on Friday surprisingly school wise, mostly claiming cold damage to some schools (??). Everywhere else was on delay when you talk school, but there were some modified bus routes.

I'm a weenie, but the west winds led to it not being quite warm enough for upper 50's to mean short sleeves for me.

The last of the snow finally melted here about noon today... To me it indicated just how "cold" the ground was as this is the longest I have seen snow "linger" here since the late 1980's ... Especially since my total snow was about 1.25 inches max.!!!

Five days here and the last snow/sleet still hasn’t melted. That’s with 3 straight sunny days in the 50s. Insane with 2” of snow. Probably 1.5 of that was sleet

Very little (if any) was sleet here... I did not hear/feel any while out in most of it... The flake size was small for here though in NE Ga near Athens area.. and it was what I term as a very "dry" snow compared to the snow on 1/10 , but the ground was frozen solid here this time.

Hit 61, forecast was 57. NWS has 71 for Friday, sunny 66 tomorrow. Could over perform and get close or hit 70 tomorrow then do it Friday . Excellent , most excellent. Won’t change anything, this month will be the second coldest jan of decade, still probably be top 10 coldest for GSO, and I think RDU

I think 66-68 will prolly win tomorrow for RDU. Got a backdoor front swinging thru that -should- keep us from exceeding forecast by too much. Friday depends on cloud cover and arrival of that next front from the west, if it lags we could get 71-73 prolly.

@SD could explain it better but he told me once the cold can lag depending on its angle. Anecdotal, but those warm days ahead of a front do seem to usually perform as forecast or a little above .

C+ duration of the cold keeps it from a D or F 1 inch of snow is still BN. Sorry not sorry
Prolly is average for your area in Jan! RDU is bang on average for jan snowfall, don’t worry a couple more small events will do it though , I got faith shane, feb 26 2 inch snowfall
