One of the few straggler showers that are in Downtown Spartanburg I’m under and it’s snowing lol
Nice! That area looked primed to perform based on recent modeling. I think they got hit pretty well from last January’s storm, too. They also got it really bad from Hurricane Michael in 2018.
Given they’re only an hour or so from Tallahassee, it’s always fascinated me how much better they do with these systems. Beautiful hill country, too.

Wet bulb zero heights on the 2 hour HRRR forecast over RDU are 900m or about 3000 feet above the surface. You need to drop those at least 1,500 feet to start really seeing any appreciable mixing with snow.

I can actually believe that. Despite surface temps being in the upper 30s right now, your wet bulb zero heights are actually less than 1500 feet above ground (as analyzed by the HRRR), which would support a rain/snow mix at the surface.
well. if there is any moisture left; lexington sc should start to mix/possibly change over in the next hour or less but eh.. moisture leaving.. needed heavier rates
Good to see those thickness lines finally on the move eastward. Unfortunately, you can also see how NC is getting the shaft by the CAA compared to SC / GA (although we have a lot more time left than SC, on the plus side). The Appalachians giveth, and the Appalachians taketh.
its not just you guys; even the areas that are snowing in sc, it's light and the moisture is gone. the same's going to happen up that way i'm afraid
a lot was being put on a strong deformation type of band; which is showing signs of possibly trying to get going but honestly, that kicker wave ruined everything too little too late at the tilt
Yeah, I think that’s really our only hope here and some modeling was suggesting it could happen. If we could get under some heavy returns later thus afternoon for a few hours, that’s our shot. If that doesn’t happen, we just rain or at best get a few hours of Snow TV without accumulation. Seemed to be what NWS RAH was suggesting with their 0.5” forecast to isolated 2” spots with banding.
Truly there may have been the smallest worst snowflakes God has ever seen fit to cast upon His earth in there at times but that was a rain shower

Hey Webb you know I’m in Wake Forest area so I just got done with Church where is your best guess for the possibility of changing to snow in the area willing to drive about an hour or so thought about Roxboro what are your thoughts?

Might briefly mix w/ snow between 19-21z there. If the surface temps can drop about 3F to ~36F and you maintain at least some steady light-moderate precip, that could work in Roxboro.

It looks like it's snowing around Morganton/Hickory with this moisture on the back end based on MPING reports. Maybe we can get something here in S. Charlotte before it moves out, but have been stuck around 41 degrees which probably won't get it done.

Can confirm light snow in the Morganton hickory area.
You probably could mix under this band at 8 or 900 feet ASL. I'm at 670' here and it isn't enough
Idk its just so relatively warm below 925. The good thing is it looks like some level of CAA is starting across more of our local area. I just don't know if we run out of time

Home as of 5 minutes ago. The area of HWY 25 that splits off Hephzibah-McBean Rd was maybe about 50/60% snow, but all rain here (though I may have seen a flake or two try to sneak by less than a mile from the house) and I see no way that's going to change as the radar does look similar to some short-range models I remember seeing.
This was actually the first time I've pulled this kind of stunt. Not sure I would have been doing it if it was 2 degrees colder (granted if it was, it'd have snowed at the house) since I don't know how to drive in ice.
Of course, I type that out and the house has now flipped to snow in the middle of me composing a post. I actually managed to play this perfectly. Got to see the changeover in Wrens and got home for the changeover here.

As soon as the sky lightened, the white vanished everywhere. Now you see it, now you don't. It's the story of the last 30 years, or so. Need some cold in place, with a reinforcing high, well placed, and a slow, weak gom low tracking over N Fla. Clippers don't do it most times. Need a SnoJam storm...been way, way too long since I saw a storm with staying power.
