Tropical Hurricane Ida

Just being real, the strength of the storm, the amount of people that didn’t evacuate, these poor people looking at the storm this morning and having an “ oh sheet” moment, I feel horrible for them and feel like the death toll will be in the hundreds when all is said and done! ?

An elevated NOAA C-MAN station at Southwest Pass, Louisiana,
recently reported a sustained wind of 105 mph (169 km/h) and a wind
gust of 121 mph (194 km/h).

The latest minimum central pressure based on data from an Air Force
Reserve Hurricane Hunter aircraft is 930 mb (27.46 in).

This is at the US Coast Guard station on the north end of Grand isle, wonder how long it will hold up its only 2.7 meters above sea level so a 15 ft surge would literally put it under water....

Thats 20 mile's NE of the center.... and maybe 60-80 ft above sea level...thats probably a good indication of the swath of truly destructive winds, luckily the core winds are fairly tight....still there is going to be a 10-20 miles wide band of essentially EF2/3 type winds impacting a lot of small towns with substandard structures.

Looking like landfall is going to be Port Fourchon or maybe just a little west. Feel awful for Galliano, Golden Meadow and Grand Isle.

Yeah there is a real chance these places cease to exist more or less....Grand Isle is all but certain to be completely inundated, only the most recent strongest buildings there will survive and then the infrastructure itself ( road, power, water etc ) will be totally disrupted.

You’ll see this in textbooks in the future THATS for sure. Just as textbook as it gets … and this time this hurricane has two sides a front and a back … no escaping this B7E3CE22-ED94-4911-8075-B28AB8D4E0F0.png
