Misc General Banter Thread

Question for y'all in SC that will show that I'm still beaming a bit from going to the lowcountry, though I'm probably not going to go all the way back to Charleston/Edisto.

How do you feel about DIY tubing? Is it possible to find an area in Givhans Ferry State Park where you can do good tubing runs that aren't a full hour or is just going with the tubing service a better idea?

Secondary and close to an hour closer too... is DIY possible in Columbia in the Congaree/Saluda River?

I don't have a tube, but if doing it DIY style is realistically possible in one of these rivers, I might go get one (and if it's a waste of money, I'll wave off my parents and attempt a full short run with one of the tubing services without them coming along). And sadly, tubing in the Savannah River is really not recommended if you're curious.

This idea somehow has now turned into something completely different btw. We're probably still going to Saluda Shoals, but my dad has talked me out of tubing as he doesn't want to be away from my wheelchair bound mom for 2 hours. We might get in the river or go to Lake Murray though, and I kind of baited my dad into another return trip to the Congaree but that will be much later.

I recently before this went to Columbia on my own for the first time in 7 years to go to the zoo ha (first time since I was very little there). It was the second time in quite a while that I did a long distance drive and while my little Civic handled well (too well as I struggled to get down to a lower speed limit when I got to the Columbia limits), my back tightened up and that concerns me as I still have the idea that I am going to put myself behind the wheel for a longer trip in a few weeks.

Days start getting shorter tomorrow!

The rain is coming down hard in Cary right now where I work. I'm hoping my residence will get the same treatment. There maybe more to come later. After today, things look to dry up again for the next seven days outside of an isolated shower or thunderstorm. I think the chances are good that my residence has now broken the one inch mark for June as far as rainfall at least.

Exactly why I decided that I'm going to attempt to travel to SW NC, though the plans didn't evolve to July until I talked through them.

For now, I'm headed north through the South Carolina route as I have the idea of going tubing. I've liked what I've seen of Columbia, but if I ever left my nerves in the dust, I really, really should have the upstate on my list of places to move to.

Upstate isn’t so bad. 2-3hrs from the beach and 45mins from the mountains. 90’ish minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway. We really don’t know how good we’ve got it here

You may need a lumbar pillow or a towel rolled up. Hondas have horrific seating ergonomics and the Civic doesn't come with adjustable lumbar support even on the fancy Touring model.

Saw this joker as I was taking a dog walk before going back home today. Been helping mom move to a new place about a mile inland around Ocean Isle/Calabash past few days. That means more freshwater around apparently. Previously was near the Intracoastal. Never saw one of these on the road in 10 years of visiting there.

Yea it’s not a close pic, but as I said I was on a dog walk and didn’t wanna test the circle of life.

Well we're gonna have to hunker down; looks like the heat is truly coming. I hate what's showing up but nothing can be done. Get me to mid August and I can see the end coming; earlier sunsets, lower sun angle, and signs of change. What's coming is no fun.

I've been telling people for weeks who are mad it hasn't been truly hot yet out here just wait. Yes it's probably rained too much for some people but it always shuts off at some point and we see the forecasts

But I mean who can forget the whole Christmas week was in the 70s and 80s anyway... Like I truly hope to never see that again here. I don't think people realize when they complain about wheres the heat now that we broke every record in the books back then

Speaking of... 6 months til Christmas Eve again
