Misc General Banter Thread

34 here. Its amazing how fast it goes...it makes me not want to make prints in the yard because it will cause melting.

You would think it would be colder when its 48 at 2:15 in the afternoon in Miami! And its only 54 at Nassau in the Bahamas. Crazy cold down there.
Snowed here last night from midnight till 8:30AM over a half inch at 15 degrees. Was gone in an hour with temp at 20 degrees and sun out. Zr still keeping old snow around though.

Early AM this morning

A little later with sun out and temp still around 20.

Plows did a good job around here today on main roads, but side roads are not great at all unless they had full sun all day. Gonna be a block of ice in the morning.

Some melting happened but it was primarily in places where the wind scoured the drifts down to only a couple of inches deep. The rest of the yard compacted down to probably 6-8" deep by evening.

What’s the hangover after tracking a storm called? Like I’m tired and don’t want to look at the forum again for a few days but would do it again in a heartbeat

I'm not going to lie; it's going to be strange not tracking for something. It's why I said that it was a whirlwind of a three weeks to end January.

Now I guess I gotta do normal life, including try to uh, socialize and figure out something that has been impossible for me. I often do interesting things after I clock out on Friday (which is early compared to the time being a normal general 8/9 to 5 type schedule for the rest of the week), but I get way too wrapped into work and go home.

And maybe I can keep the gains with me not paying as much attention to US markets. The fever has broken for me (it was a bad hyperfixation), but it took one of my other "things" to break it.

Did anyone else get about 12 hours of sleep last night? First great night of sleep I’ve had in 2 weeks.

I think I slept about 3 last night. Shoveled hourly until 2am then dealt with a surprise frozen pipe issue until 3. Back out at 630 to shovel (and it was still snowing) and started on MiLs long driveway down the road. The church sidewalk just about ended me with a foot of snow with slush at the bottom and they canceled the service anyway.

I haven’t seen legit snow drifts in a long time and it was fascinating to see. Our official total is 14” but in a random parking lot with nothing close by there’d be drifts ranging up to over my knees and in other places near buildings it was scoured out to almost bare ground. My pickup has 33” tires and was broadside to the wind which made drifts all the way up to the top of the tire.

It’s been tough looking at it today myself. This snowstorm definitely punked me a bit. I think i bought in way too heavily that it was gonna be one of those special ones down here in CAE. Found myself frustrated most of the day yesterday instead of just enjoying the snow. Hate to admit that also cause it sounds ungrateful. But man.. this one could have done so much more. The thought of starting over tracking something is a turn off right now.

Snow sleep is the best sleep. Cold temps, good coat of snow, nightfall, and you know it’s at least gonna be there when you wake in the morning.

Mitch i know you were frustrated brother that this wasn’t the big one for you guys but remember it still was decent for you guys. As you call it you live in the armpit so its not always going to work out and you know this but the thing im sure did happen today was your girls work up and they were itching to go play in the snow and enjoy time with you and your wife! So enjoy it brother not it wasn’t your big one you were hoping for but it’s what God blessed you with and let’s enjoy it and get ready for the next one! Your awesome brother keep doing your thing! God Is Good!

Happy there was a storm but jeez. It would be so nice to have a wintry February too. Been a while

It’s funny that we very well could have a winter that comes in below average for Dec/Jan/Feb. At least in these parts we’re -3.5F 2/3 of the way through winter. I don’t know how long it’s been since the entire meteorological season was below average. Sept/Oct/Nov were also below average so we got to tick the box for a below normal autumn.

It's nice having a winter that isn't a wall-to-wall torch. Warm weather is nice, but we get at least 8 months of it. Unlike warm weather, winter storms are not a guarantee in the South. Winters 2022-23 and 2023-24 never even had many good chances. It's only February 1 and there's still plenty of time for those who haven't yet scored. Gut feeling is we get one more winter storm before winter's over that affects much of this board. Next 10 days or so should be quiet aside for the potential of some brief novelty flakes in central NC on Thursday morning.
