im right down the road from you and have followed every winter storm for 30 years and still waiting on my first 6+”. 7 years ain’t bad!it took 7 years of following wx to get my first 6” storm. Gracious
have you considered a different hobbyim right down the road from you and have followed every winter storm for 30 years and still waiting on my first 6+”. 7 years ain’t bad!
Never. I was telling my wife, one day when I do get a big one, it will be bitter sweet and I’ll probably cry in joy and sadness.have you considered a different hobby
Dry slot is 100 years old
This guy just gets itNever. I was telling my wife, one day when I do get a big one, it will be bitter sweet and I’ll probably cry in joy and sadness.
It’s my white whale, and when it’s over, what’s left? Lol
This 30 year build up is going to make it epic when it happens though!
2"...grass is covered. A fairly miserable event with 8-12" pretty much surrounding Wake County to Charlotte and the Triad and of course just east of here. This was a once in a 20 year event for the state of NC and we precip min'd...again.@KyloG what was your final total?
Ultimate pain there yesterday. Ugh.Dry slot is 100 years old
I’m glad you weren’t totally blanked. We finished up with over a foot. The most I’ve ever had in my backyard. Never imagined that would happen.2"...grass is covered. I said this a couple of days ago...Raleigh never jackpots but we seem to always scrape together an inch or two.
How much did you finish with?
Get back in the saddle and hunt the next one partner. There are no days off.me after yesterday..where do we go from
here?View attachment 193181

Map seems inflatedThis seems off. Not sure there was 4” in southern wake
Something like that. I just know we broke the longest streak on record between 4” snowfalls going back to the 2018 storm. So you are at 15-16" on the season?
Raleigh has had 15" of snow the past 7 years cumulative and that includes through yesterday. To be honest...that's not bad. 2" avg is probably the best we looking at for Raleigh.

It is a little gutting knowing the antecedent conditions and surface temperatures were probably as good as we’re ever going to see around here for a winter storm and there was plenty of moisture with double digit snowfalls within a hundred miles on both sides. I’m sure another double digit snowfall will happen again here, but it would’ve been nice to get it in these conditions as opposed to a 32-degree slop storm.3 inches in Raleigh. Meh. Pretty minor event here for a setup like this. I doubt it happens anytime soon here
Good for the rest of the state
For a city with a climo snowfall of around 5-6", we should be able to hit 10" at least once every 3-5 years. It happened on average once every 3 years until 2004. Little Rock Arkansas, for comparison, averages even less than Raleigh but has had 10" or more 5 times in the last 15 years. RDU hasn't cracked 10" over a full winter in 22 years. So you are at 15-16" on the season?

We still got that streak going...but it's your 2nd 12"+ event in 8 winters. You guys suffer but then dang you blow it out of the water.Something like that. I just know we broke the longest streak on record between 4” snowfalls going back to the 2018 storm.
Two winter storm warnings and two smaller advisory events is my criteria for a good winter and we hit that. I’m good for a while.

It just sucks to see a big dog wasted on a dry slot. A 2-3" event wouldn't be at all bad on its own, but when areas to the west and east got over a foot it really stings.
I'd argue there's been no part of the state that has had it worse than SE Wake. Fortunately I was able to get about 6-7" from this storm but it was slushy since it changed over to rain later. Yikes that cutoff with this one was brutalWe still got that streak going...but it's your 2nd 12"+ event in 8 winters. You guys suffer but then dang you blow it out of the water.
RDU hasn't had a 8" event in 20+ years. CLT has had 3 8"+ events, 2 12"+ since 2004 and RDU over that time...none.
And let's face it....yesterday could have been it and we blew it. Those patterns/setups only come around once a decade+.

ACH]2018 was 8” here. Being south of I-85 sucks. We usually get 75% of what Greensboro records at the airport. On the other extreme was the Carolina Crusher where I lived in Thomasville. Got 9” while the county to the south got 2 feet. Moral of the story is that it’s hard to be in the jackpot zone because it moves around for every storm. Part of what makes things interesting in tracking. We still got that streak going...but it's your 2nd 12"+ event in 8 winters. You guys suffer but then dang you blow it out of the water.

Yea I always laugh when other areas talk about getting screwed.43 years and counting since Atlanta Airport recorded a 6" snowstorm.
PGV has a lower mean than Raleigh...but it definitely feels like they have outsnowed us in the last decade with multiple big dogs.Heres a few more classic duds

Agreed. Its not like we haven't had big dogs around just not a single one here. Maybe it's some kind of balancing from 00 but at some point the bank account runs out and we are therePGV has a lower mean than Raleigh...but it definitely feels like they have outsnowed us in the last decade with multiple big dogs.
The data is surprising sometimes. I just saw where the 10.3” was Greensboro’s 6th snowiest day ever. Only recorded a foot on 3 occasions. We still got that streak going...but it's your 2nd 12"+ event in 8 winters. You guys suffer but then dang you blow it out of the water.

We’ve paid that debt. It’s been 26 years. I think it’s just incredible bad luck. And that usually changes. But…we all may be dead of old age when it does.Agreed. Its not like we haven't had big dogs around just not a single one here. Maybe it's some kind of balancing from 00 but at some point the bank account runs out and we are there
There's a part of Guilford County, the part where I grew up and my parents live, that hasn't recorded a foot of snow since 1969, for example. My parents supposedly measured 11" in the driveway yesterday, so I wonder if they could have gotten a foot on grassy surfaces. Their driveway is more or less fully shaded this time of year, though, and the temperatures were very cold, so the driveway measurement may have not had any melting like it usually would've.The data is surprising sometimes.
