Can you make the game time decision of where to book tomorrow night with the latest info? I don’t think Asheville is the call — CLT could be a solid nova but if tmrw night data is looking good for upstate SC, that’d be a closer drive for you! Greenville - Spartunburg could be a nice spot for this storm

Salisbury NC …. Trust me it’s the Roxboro of the CLT metro I used to live there

Might be a little far, but Greensboro could work. 5 hours from Atlanta, and usually does well more often than not.

Asheboro to Durham seems to be a good spot, or at least the where the ceiling is highest. Charlotte and Ashevillle might have a better floor.

What are you driving? that would be my primary consideration on telling you where to go. Are you equipped to drive on snow/slushy snow?
We're sitting here around Winston with an inch plus of ice on the secondary/tertiary roads. Things are dicey once you get off the interstate and maintained expressways.

Your thought to just hit Charlotte with the family is probably a good idea. They're an order of magnitude better off than we are right now tonight looking at this event even though we are only an hour north.

Just have a backup plan to get out. You may get in but you may be delayed getting out due to road conditions. If you can be flexible, have a blast. Just don't push it and test road conditions.
 
After almost 4 days power is back on! No damage or frozen pipes even though the house was 35 degrees when we stopped by to check on it right before everything came back on. All our things were still in our hotel room and we already paid for another day so staying here one last night since the house was so cold still.

This definitely got me reminiscing tonight and thinking back to how I got to this very point LoL.... while I've always been interested and followed weather, my best guess that I can remember (they were mentioned earlier) was running across DT and Robert many years ago on some some social media platform. Loved Roberts posts and DT for that matter even though we all know how wild that can be LoL. Anyway All that led me to AMWx then to here at SouthernWx. In the end and still a great community through the years. Thank you all for your input big or small.

Really scary leading up to and day of. We turned our attitude around by Monday and just embraced it as an adventure. Actually gonna miss our hotel room and little town that was our home for the last 4 days during this historic Ice storm.
 
Yeah I just need to see the GFS and AI GFS tonight. I can go to bed afterwards because I know the Canadian will be another hit based on the RGEM and the Euro runs too late (tried with the Ukie, but it was going to be late too).

Really hoping the Euro didn’t NAM us at 18z.
