Misc General Banter Thread

Next!!!! What a dud for everyone in the Carolina’s and even back to Brent. Seems like N MS was ground zero for worst ice damage!
There’s a reason 1”+ ZR events don’t happen often! The models suck!
Next weekend is the one! This was the appetizer! 😉💦

Yes, sure did. I'm only 15 minutes away in North Augusta so I drove over there with the dog. Very small area, like 2 mile radius at most. A coating to an inch. Literally less than a 2 minute drive from absolutely nothing to winter wonderland. It was the strangest thing. I heard on a local station that NWS CAE said it was not cold all the way through the column, rather a phenomenon that occurs when droplets have a chance to flash freeze again after exiting warm layer... I want to say @Webberweather53 mentioned something like this being possible in areas? Maybe I'm mistaking.... but it was wild looking.
It's the same thing that caused it to snow in Mobile briefly yesterday

Lol I'm looking out here at this and trying to imagine if we had gotten the 2 feet haha

I will be surprised if the schools are open at all this week. We don't even get above freezing long at all the entire stretch

In this brief lull, I’d like to take a second to address the rare (but necessary to address) toxicity on the board at times… 3 days ago, I mentioned the possibility of dry slotting due to low QPF on several models that began looking like a trend. It appeared they were beginning to hint at it, so I called it out and was asked by The Weather Driver if I was a meteorologist…. And was called a “troll” by another user…. Truly sorry if my interpretation offended others at that time, but didn’t think this interpretation of the models was much of a stretch considering the trends… Nonetheless, I have no hard feelings, but hopeful for the sake of myself and others that this place can remain a place where we can disagree on things without name calling or assumptions… We’re all here to learn, myself included… I’ve been following since 2017, (though I just recently had to create a new account)… hopeful to continue my learning here with the freedom to post without retribution. Okay to disagree, but name calling not necessary and I’m afraid will scare off the newer users or discourage them from posting

Mack this area was more scared than before Helene hit. By a long shot. Had this done what it should have done it would have been unbelievable. The data was unanimous but the BALL DONT LIE

The only thing id say that is really notable here is how extremely cold it was. This is definitely the biggest snowstorm I've seen to be this cold or the fact it's gonna stay cold. That part is probably bordering on historic

The 6-8 inches last January was already mostly gone by now in comparison which is very similar to how much snow we have here

Whats really helping the main roads here is the sole fact we were all snow

So now all the sudden you can predict what will happen one week out? Lol what changed between this weekend storm and now? A week out on the last storm, you guys thought it was gonna be a historical snow storm just to end up losing it to the north. I asked what would have to happen for Alabama to become involved
The south complains about the north wishcasting and being arrogant and entitled, but it happens within our own region as well. Almost every single threat is or should be a NC paste job. gotta laugh

CJ (as controversial as he may be on this board) brought up a good point tonight… Helene impacted areas despite seeing decent icing may not have had the highest impacts, in part, due to less debris hanging around - like hanging tree limbs and such (which Helene may have ultimately taken care of)..

Have fun chasing the models , this one burned me out for a few days . Models were awful for our area in N. Foothills of NC no need to miss some ZZZZZ.

It’s a form of mental illness imo. I enjoy snow and come to this forum every winter to see models, trends etc. but at the end of the day, I realize that no matter how bad I want it to snow, that ain’t gonna change what will actually happen. I want to actually understand how changes in pattern will affect my area. Not have a full grown man who has a childish obsession with snow, tell me my area is out just because he wants it in his area 🤣 it’s lame and embarrassing.

No doubt. Got some folks all up in their feelings with a simple comment. Tide recruiting must not be going well. I also always enjoy the poster who gets on the other poster about not using the Banter thread via a post....not in the banter thread.
Mmm. You are def part of the Carolina weenie club…He is apparently a meteorologist and you guys were having absolute meltdowns over Mets on tv forecasting 2 feet of snow in Georgia.. bc it is indeed irresponsible to make statements that you have no way of validating… esp coming from a met.

That’s an odd photo to include for a storm in 2002. I mean, I know it was 24 years ago. But that photo looks like it’s from… I don’t know. But I’ve not seen poles with that many wires on it in my lifetime. And why does it go from 3 tiers to 6? I smell AI.

the synoptic setup, which is not modeled too far in advance probably wouldn't even give clouds to alabama. cold though

As someone who used to live in Alabama I understand the pain but people have forgotten that much of Alabama saw three or four inches last year when Central North Carolina and Charlotte Area didn't get anything close.

Well I haven’t had accumulating snow in years now. I’m in the southern part of central Alabama. North and south Alabama got it last year, not us though.
