Misc General Banter Thread

I guess I’m gonna go ahead and drain my pool pump tomorrow. No point waiting on the inevitable
I rigged up a kerosene lantern and a tarp over my equipment in the unheated pool house. The pump runs 24X7. Unless, of course, the power is out, lol. I also put one of my temperature sensors out there to be safe.

I'm all good unless one of the many oak tree limbs falls on the pump enclosure.

To me the quiet here is also a bit eerie; not only are we tired and there isn’t much more to know at the moment, but mostly I’d imagine we are all prepping, cleaning, preparing, because we know the seriousness. The quietness here reflects the need to get real and make preparations.

I’m drinking vodka for 7 days in a row. Luckily I’m out on medical leave so my lack of sleep hasn’t hurt me. I’ll sleep in march when I go back to work.

I’m prepared and ready to go. But honestly I won’t lie in the back of my mind I keep thinking this is going to a nuisance event and that iv spent a lot of money the past 2 days.
I wish it was going to be. I'd be thrilled if i was wrong...because days/weeks without power and all the tree damage sucks. I honestly dread it...and it makes it harder to enjoy the meteorological aspect of it. Crazy enough i have somewhat of a conflict in my head...the weenie part of my brain sort of hopes for the extreme when my common sense part of my brain is screaming no.

The hoping for relief/disappointment thing is definitely shared by many. Just gotta live with the cognitive dissonance in this hobby.

0Z HRRR showing signs of significant warming in the Atlanta area. This threat is diminishing by the hour! Should be all rain for the ATL soon. I suspected that the Euro/Ukie were right all along.
Isn’t it a little too soon to bank on the HRRR?

You know the CAD setup is good when it can wrap around to the Cumberland Plateau and trigger an ice storm for the winter hellhole of Tennessee (aka Chattanooga). Hasn't been a warning criteria glaze here since 2005. The key here is wetbulbs temps when precip begins. 29 or less will deliver warning criteria. 30 is marginal. 31-32 is novelty. Literally won't know what we're dealing with it until starts.

Yep, I was telling my mom that it's kind of surprising that her old stomping grounds are also under an ice storm warning and that it's really close, could go either way (50/50 coin toss).

She was just talking to her sister and telling her that she better not be doing anything stupid this weekend.

Looks slightly north and warmer. NC may struggle to get moisture or cold. I will take it.

You two really just be saying ----

Really overdue for a widespread ice storm... and here it is. '94, '96, Xmas '98, '02, 05' and that was the last major one around here. My kids have never seen a real ice storm before. My brother was born in one in '89!
I hope we can stay mostly sleet in the Charlotte area, really hoping to keep power.

If I don’t get 4 inches of snow in the upcoming pattern the next 2 weeks and/or it fails, I rage quit this hobby.

I would like to know why everyone always takes the worse case scenario and just runs with it like it's gospel. I mean sure worse case can happen, But best case can just the same. Just because the model with the highest Totals and worse case ice storm doesn't mean the highest Totals is gonna verify. It's just always the the one showing worst is what's gonna happen

I think for an ice storm its for preparation, at least for me. I would rather be prepared for no power and not need any of the supplies than be stuck without.
