Misc General Banter Thread

Everything is as ready as it’s going to get. Groceries and water. Grills. Butane. Battery packs. Phones. Laptops. Extra gasoline. Flashlights. Blankets. Kerosene heater and fuel for when the power goes out (I’ve resigned myself to the fact the lights will go dark; who knows for how long).

Now we wait. It’s almost an eerie feeling tonight. Not worried - I’ve followed my plan since Monday. Just a weird feeling of working toward this event, and now, the prep is complete and it’s just about go time.

Thanks for all the great discussion and analysis this week, folks. Everybody please stay safe.

I have gas logs…. They’re turned on by a switch on the wall but apparently you can run it on D Battries. Any of yall know how to start it from there? Like just the pilot or something?

yeah I got one too, took a look today. Put in the batteries and that starts the ignitor. Just have to have the pilot light on. Per chat gpt too

Mine still work from the switch, I turned off my breaker to the living room where they are and I was still able to use the switch to ignite it, of course that was with batteries in it. You could also have a manual click to light button on there as well.

Well, Mr. Goofus doesn't even get me to freezing for that run during the overrunning precip, which would be a blessing. The AI version disagrees and it's colder.

Guess it ultimately comes down to nowcasting. If I'm close to freezing when some of the early precip arrives, it might be a moderate impact event. But if near the upper 30's like I've seen some suggest, I may end up staying plain rain...

Hate to say it but I bet no more storms will actually materialize for most of us through Feb. Amped to the north or suppressed to the south. Plenty of fantasy storms though I’m sure.

Gonna try and get some decent sleep tonight since tomorrow will be an all nighter

You see, the funny part about me having watched this aggressively is that I do not plan on doing that. I’d like to maybe get lucky and see sleet if it’s cold enough as the sun goes down, but really, all I plan to do is go to bed late at night…and IF it’s cold enough for issues, probably say a prayer for the failure mode of precip stays north of me.

It's amazing how quiet it gets here in the calm before the storm. Everyone pretty much knows what they're facing.
They put their heads down and get ready for what's coming. I wish you all well and pray that you and your families stay safe.
Take care. Spring will come.

Current point and click for my location. Most definitely the coldest 7 day I’ve seen since 2018. This is gonna be rough for a lot of people.
Wow, I just took at mine here and I didn't realize it was going to be that cold. Warmest temperature expected over the next week is just 36 with most daily highs below freezing!

It's almost like the slop with this storm isn't going anywhere anytime soon. I don't think most understand that they're not driving anywhere over the next week.

Think dry air is actually killing some of our snow here for the first round haha. I kind of expected a slow start the other day though with the real peak tomorrow night. Well see. I don't wanna call bust yet like some people are haha

Texas has a ton of precip though there was actually a flash flood warning earlier

Are you getting the ole dreaded pixie dust snow?

Are you getting the ole dreaded pixie dust snow?

Yup. I was always concerned about that in the back of my mind. It's really not my favorite setup to get a good snow

I mean I've been saying for a couple days I thought tomorrow night would be the real peak and I mean the models still look good into Sunday morning but I just dunno if the extreme totals can verify if tonight doesn't pick up more

Like I saw people talking about it ramping up after midnight if anything it's gone poof since midnight haha
