So, last Thanksgiving, we split up a drive down to Bradenton, FL to see family (which takes 7 hours and 13 minutes per google on a normal day which is very doable in one day but hard). If I'm remembering correctly, we took off from our lunch in Ocala, FL at about 1-1:30 or so or so and did not manage to get all the way down to Bradenton until at least 6, if not later (normal traffic would be about 2 hours and 7 minutes). I went to sleep in the back of the car for a bit but it was absolutely awful traffic on I-75 outside of one 30 minute period which caused travel time to be doubled.

Now my mom says that she is strongly against splitting up the drive again. If my calculations are right and it's not smoother traffic, that could possibly mean adding at least 2-3 hours on the drive from bad traffic alone, making it 9-10 hours on the road in one day because of bad Florida traffic.

@pcbjr , am I just screwed here if we go through with I-75 traffic usually being bad in the whole state for holidays? I love my family but that kind of drive in Florida tacked on from us already coming down from Georgia is a bit much to me. I've already talked about the drive but they've just gotten on to me and told me to shut up.

Been doing a lot of driving to Tampa lately (though I do really hate taking one step south of Gainesville) and I-75 has not been bad at all (especially now that it's all 3 lanes in each direction and that goofy area around the Turnpike is fixed). The only hold-up I've experienced were wrecks. Actually, if traffic got real bad, depending on where you are, you could detour using 98 or 301 (you'd have to use a Google map to figure out which would be best from where you wanted to detour from) and then swing back to I-75 or just follow one or the other. Of course, you'd have to get back on I-75 before Tampa to get over to Bradenton. I would avoid Tampa between 3:30 and 6:00.
Best!
Phil

Well I went hiking to Rainbow Falls this morning. I was pleasantly surprised to find light snow accumulations in the higher elevations. It was just a breathtaking experience. Usually when I hike the temps and humidity are too high.

Highway 441 was closed in the park as of this morning, due to storm damage. Hopefully the road can be reopened soon.
