Wintry December 23-26 2022 Winter Weather and Cold

My heat pump went off a while ago the system was chugging along on aux heat ($$$). Reset the breakers and heat pump is running again!

Feel bad for all ya'll without power tonight. Stay warm!! We're still holding at -12 C, not sure of wind chill but it is COLD out there right now.

Had to drive from Jasper, GA to Dahlonega and back this evening. Left around 10:30 and returned about 20 minutes ago. On return trip west of Dawsonville started noticing fine snow …at first thought just dust because there are several marble quarries on the route. It picked up. Temp on car ranged from 4 to 2.

Here is a pic … totally surprised. First time in my life to see snow at that temp. And not really forecasted.

25-26 now here. Below freezing as far south as Ocala in FL and we still have several more hours of darkness left. Teens well into south GA. This is mighty impressive without any snow cover in most areas.

I don’t think I’ll hit single digits. I think 10 is the ceiling. Sitting at 12 now and I think we’re stuck here.

8/-3 now and the heat pumps running constantly and cycling the aux gas furnaces. The crawl space is still holding at 48 so we should be good for the night.

10.5 here at 2:15. Not bad considering my lowest low last winter was 22. I was going to freeze some bubbles but the mix is still full of tiny bubbles from stirring, so I can't get a big one started. Guess I'll play tomorrow night it the wind is down.

Gonna sound like an old man now…to experience the 80’s and early 90’s in the Upstate of SC this extreme happened almost every year, to the point where it was expected. Along with the anticipated frigid temps there was a validated snowfall threat and occurrence. It is very frustrating as a snow lover to appreciate these cold temps nowadays, because we just can’t seem to couple them with moisture…sigh…rant over.

Greensboro is 5 degrees with a wind chill of -12. This is about 3 degrees lower than forecast. I was a little surprised that we busted low with such an extreme forecast. This is the second coldest I ever remember it being here. Impressive.

My sister lives on Lake Chatuge in SW North Carolina. From there back over to Franklin on hwy 64 is the prettiest part of our state. Saying a lot and Ive been through every corner , several times.

I prefer the Southern Appalachian's as well. Parts get over 120' Rain a year... then there's the snow and the cold... It's like being in another world

I’ve noticed an uptick in power outages across NC the past couple hours. Appears to more grid overload than wind related.
