Yep, PACNW needs to relax so we can build in some decent heights to drive amplitude south and east with a southern steamer, right now and for the next couple center stage to our west, by good measure. Until then, those gravy trains are going to have a hard time ejecting NE out of the northern lakes. Based on the above, we have a couple things working against us over the next 7-10, not ideal by any measure but maybe a nuisance type for some on the board as we head towards Christmas.

GFS splits up the energy, shoots some south and brings some across the Ga/Tn/NC area. Looks weird. Gives many areas light snow showers/flurries. Not a terrible look at 156 hours away, but not great either. Either need a stronger HP or more upper air northern stream interaction to bring some cold air further south.

If you’re hoping for a stronger HP the trend is your friend

Stronger high pressure and positioned a bit differently could turn it into a ZR event.. assuming it doesn't just suppress everything south..

I kind of wish we had a ridge up from the Baja up through Nevada and into and north of far eastern AK instead of a big circle north of AK and a ridge out in the Pacific up through the Aleutians. I mean, I know we like blocking in the Arctic as a general rule, but the flow around these features is not directing the cold air up there into the SE. We're finally getting a -NAO December and we're blowing it.
