A lot of hyperbole today in the comment sections. Some ready to wave off this pattern change until another 10 days to everyone excited about the 18z. Again and again be very weary of the op models. The ensembles are the way to go. It's obvious the op models ain't got a clue in my opinion. Id temper any doubt or high expectations of this upcoming pattern change.
So, so close. We're getting there?

We're very close to a sneaky little system while eyes are focused on the big enchilada down the road. This still is a miss but major shift in right direction on the ICON, very doable and less than 6 days out
For the stuff later on, the icon was worse, but even then was kicking the TPV out due to the pac trough 
I really feel like with that Pacific trough, things will kick east like we saw last January, really just a matter of timing differences.

For entertainment purposes ...
Stormvista has January 1988 as the top analog and January 2011 as the third.
It looks better than the 12z. More ridging and the "Delayer" isn't digging as far west as the 12z.
