Coronavirus (Stay on Topic)

The seat belt law is just another tax on the public. Lol they don’t care if you die in a car wreck. I think the mask rule is just a sign of desperation for these governors and mayors to get their Covid numbers under control. Many just want to show that they “care” as we head into election season. It’s not really a big deal. No one can make you wear a mask. If you care enough not to wear one you can just tell a store employee that you have a breathing condition that is made worse by wearing a mask. Under law you don’t have to provide proof of your medical condition.

These mask mandates are just semantics and political posturing. Our town Mayor has “recommended” wearing masks inside local businesses but will not “mandate”. He says the semantics of mandating masks is completely foolish and unnecessary..and we agree on that front.

No and honestly the mask makes more sense than the seat belt

When the riots took place a couple of weeks ago I didn't hear the press or politicians complain about mask usage. When politicians approve of almost anything being used for a mask it becomes a joke.

"But, he noted, a non-medical professional using this mask is likely not using it correctly, doing little to prevent the spread of illness or inhaling a disease.

“The chance of the average person going into a pharmacy, wearing them correctly and for long periods of time is unlikely,” he said."

Hey just saying everyone wants to bring up % and numbers so let's look at some of the ------ numbers too.

I am sure someone will say the gubment lies about the numbers.

Had to go to lowes this morning and saw a sad display of ignorance. One guy was trying to pay cash at a self checkout and they arent taking cash payments right now. That dude just took out his card and paid and left.

The little skinny meth head looking dude in front of me just goes off on the clerk about how lowes started this whole mess of no cash. That their liberal agenda was to push the 1 world order and that he hated everyone that worked there. Said they were all complicit. He said all the numbers were a lie and that the government agenecies were lying. Sad display and everyone was just looking at each other like WTF.

The look the register kid gave me when ingot there was of pure shock and speechlessness.

Sad I keep seeing more of these ridiculous conspiracy theories posted by more people I know. Amazing how easily people are duped by that stuff.

A lot of deflection and attempts to skew and rationalize if you ask me. So far the anti maskers have blamed the government, protests, immigrants, the government again, wearing masks improperly, air conditioning, vacations, the government again. I guess it's everyone else right?

Less then 1% dying from Covid
2.2% chance of dying in a car crash without a seat belt.
If you don’t wear your seatbelt though, I don’t die. No one dies but you. This is why people care about this in particular, it’s doesn’t just affect the anti-masker.

Interesting that you haven't mentioned direct contributors to actual deaths--five democrats governors who sent infected patients into nursing homes killing thousands.

It's interesting to note that even still New York has almost a quarter of all the deaths

The top 5 states are all blue states too

And how many die from obesity and everything that comes with it

But I don't see people upset about all the unhealthy food you can buy
But some governors/mayors are starting to ban or attempting to ban or limit certain foods. It's why I'm always a skeptic when government starts mandating anything and for the record, I wear my mask when I'm around others, not because big brother tells me too but because I've got some personal responsibility. We don't like government trying to mandate morality but they better dang sure mandate responsibility.

This isn't small pox, Ebola, tuberculosis, polio or even the 1912 flu that killed over 70 million.
Just because something isn’t the worst disease you can think of, doesn’t mean it’s not significant or impactful. The friends and family I’ve watched suffer and one die (32 year old male, no known conditions) would likely have appreciated an opportunity to not have fought the disease. But, we can’t compare how many died with this yet to how many died with those others you mentioned, cause we are no where near done. If you would like to revisit this in 18 months we can discuss total deaths. But really, the fact that a friend is dead and could have not been is the number I’ll care most about.

It's an interesting conversation right. I am ok with mask mandates but wouldn't be ok if they started dabbling with food, hell I think they are too stiff on alcohol and tobacco products. Maybe I'm a weirdo

Impactful events take place all the time sorry to say, but that doesn't mean I have the right to close down businesses and create 30 million job loses either.

Thought we were talking about masks.....no one said close anything down. The discussion was about personal responsibility in order to continue to protect safety while keeping things open and functioning.

We're talking about a social and health postures toward impact events. We're ultimately trying to balance safety within a free society.

Ugh, weekly averaged deaths have unfortunately increased to their highest levels since mid June in the US. I don't envision this situation getting any better anytime soon. :(

Pretty sure there are tons of reasons other than politics for that.

1) first states hit hard without as much knowledge how to treat it
2) first states hit hard overwhelming hospitals and staff
3) population density
4) public transit
5) international travel bringing it in from every direction making it hard to contact trace and isolate
