You cant use their stats and then agree that testing right now is catching 99% of the cases. They are basing those numbers on reported cases which are the worst out there atm.

Yeah my understanding is only the people with symptoms or in bad shape are getting the tests for now. If there are people who have 0 symptoms or think it's allergies/cold or can't get tested those people will be missed and the actual percentage will be much lower.

That's just rumor right now I'm sure. It needs to be universal and same across board regardless of income like other's mentioned. Think last I saw on twitter from Mnchin is 1k for every adult and additional 500 per child, but still speculations.

Last I saw was $1200 per adult and $500 per child. Two payments six weeks apart (if second one is needed).

Ahh, yes. I always trust people when they say, "I have high connections that you don't have." Yeah, sure... And if you do, isn't it somewhat possible that I do as well or another poster? Unless you're on conference calls with the CDC and White House I can only assume your connections are simply guesses from others. You aren't calming anyone's nerves by denying facts or telling others that they are going to, "bite your head off" for simply reading information that is readily available to everyone. You can't damn the general public for being anxious, depressed, and scared. Yet, that's exactly what you're doing. Show some compassion. Just because you are able to handle all this so well, doesn't mean everyone else can.
Ryan I have a connection with a yankee white clearance (that's the top security clearance in the nation). I did contract work with the CIA for 1 1/2 years when I retired from the Navy and I still know people working at the pentagon. What I know is nothing top secret but it IS beneficial in easing my fears. If you were just anxious or a little worried its very understandable but you repeatedly post doomsday scenarios that are beyond ridiculous "based on what I do know" and in my personal opinion that is just as irresponsible as someone being flippant about this. To each his own I guess. Should I just ignore you? Probably, but I cant just sit back and say nothing.

WRAL has a very nice writeup about the testing in NC, worth a read if you're curious about the processes, bottlenecks, etc right now.

The U.S. will soon find out whether it's likely to be the next South Korea or Italy or China when it comes to the new coronavirus crisis.

A data analysis by USA TODAY finds that, two weeks after the U.S. first entered into community transmission on March 3, America’s trajectory is trending toward Italy’s, where circumstances are dire. U.S. officials are sounding the alarm, urging Americans to heed what federal, state and local officials are asking of them in order to curtail the spread and dampen the impact of the virus on the U.S. population.

Keep in mind how few we are actually testing.

We are not following the right trend line......

Except for the fact that Italy was having about as many deaths daily as we have total 9-11 days ago with a rapidly collapsing Heath system and rapidly rising critical care rate.

It may happen, but thankfully it’s not happening yet.

I just wanted to say this as well. Things may get really bad in the US, but the idea of total country healthcare collapse is fringe. If we have a hotspot like Italy develop, people will finally get scared and lock down. Here is Italy’s deaths by region. Slightly old but it shows the point.

We are very much on top of this. Italy wasn't unfortunately. The number of cases Im sure will rise rapidly but the number of hospitalizations and deaths are the numbers we need to be most concerned with

Keep in mind Italy has less than a fifth of the population as the US. So even equivalent numerical cases/fatalities would not represent nearly as severe of a situation here.

Population adjusted to US numbers, Italy is up to roughly 225,000 cases (actual = 41,035) and 19,000 deaths (actual = 3,405) so far.

To add to this, in no way do I believe China only had 80k or so cases when they covered this up for a significant amount of time and have 1.4 billion people. It’s likely the US takes the #1 spot of total cases at some point since they’re obviously underreporting their cases (like Iran).

And we are grossly under reporting our cases too. I'll give you it's hard to believe anything with any of these numbers. We are blasting China for their reporting while our medical professionals are telling people to just stay home and not to even get tested.

We're blasting China for actions far more serious than "reporting".

To me you simply have two different testing approaches. The US tests the people with symptoms while SK tests anyone. By contrast China was intentionally trying to hide/destroy evidence of it even existing. SK is also seeing increasing numbers again despite all their testing which indicates they definitely don't have it under control yet despite how expansive the testing is.

I don't understand the obsession over weather just old people or unhealthy people are dying from this virus. People are dying from this virus, it's just as tragic to lose a unhealthy friend or family member as a healthy one.

I think it’s because it is a clear data point to use to get clear instruction on how to treat the situation. By knowing the specific group we know who is most at risk, what group will take up most of the hospital beds and ICU equipment and most importantly who to isolate to save lives.

If we can isolate these groups it will vastly save lives in both that group and the others in the event some need ICU.

Any fellow Georgians watching this Gov PC? Thoughts?

I found it interesting that he didn't feel it was necessary to issue a statewide order for closing of restaurants and bars as of now. He's leaving it to cities/counties to do so depending on their local situations/whether or not they're already a hot spot. Is that a good way to handle?

I know where I’m at, the local community is not doing a very good job at all. If a store is open, it’s packed, and I’m referring to a store like Academy Sports. It’s business as normal for any store or restaurant with open lobbies

Why are small restaurants being forced to do take out but big box stores are open? What's the point?

Police background check system for buying guns crashed today. We know someone who went to
buy a gun today but couldn’t. That’s not what you want to hear. This won’t end well
