Misc Cold Season Complaining

I’d not go so far as to say we’ve seen our last freeze. Betting we still see one or three before end of March, but yup. March ain’t looking promising for wintery mischief.

So preliminary winter grade is B. Was an A- until Mother Nature decided to go for a blizzard in New Orleans/gulf coast/south of almost everyone.
 
What are puddles? Is that what the old people talked about? 😆

Seriously though if y'all like to eat we better start getting rain in the coastal plains. I'm 9" below average since 10/1/24. Going into planting season it's not bad to be a bit dry but with such a dry summer last year, Helene flood and now dry winter the soil moisture is poo poo.

This is/was pure ignorance and stupidity for political gain. I'm an unashamed conservative, but this is beyond the pale of stupidity. This was taking an atom bomb to a job that required a scalpel and is the very definition of doing more harm than good.

100% agree. This one is going to cost lives. Many of them. As far as weather goes, I guess we will really have to depend on the Euro now. The GFS will become useless.

Regardless of political leanings these are real people -- predominantly mostly young, just trying to get a start -- losing their jobs. Just think about the amount of effort these people put in to get into these positions - 4, 6, 8 years of higher education and just when they finally get a break and get in, they are now ruthlessly cut down. No one in NWS is unqualified or undeserving of a position.

Take it from me, it is not easy to get in the door and having to do a 180 degree career change will cause some of these individuals who could have made a real, sincere contribution in their field of expertise to society will now be trying to just get by in some other job. In reality, this has actually created more waste than it got rid of.

Sadly we are at the mercy of one man, wealthiest man on the planet, that is deciding for our country what are vital positions and what is expendable.

Couldn’t say it better. If you have a seat in an NWS office, you’ve earned that ----. The people who are for this have absolutely no idea the amount of work that comes with a masters or doctorate level degree.
 
Considering the fact that NOAA is not exempt from layoffs, I’m afraid about the bigger layoffs next month.
