Misc Cold Season Complaining

Unless you move from Raleigh it's going to be very slim odds you see another 6" event and we won't ever see another 10"+ event in our lifetimes. At this rate you would have to move to Buffalo to see another 10" event.

Even another 3-4" event seems insurmountable.
Yep, it will never snow in Central/Eastern NC again. I mean it’s December 5th and the Piedmont hasn’t had a massive snow yet! I get it’s been a few years but some of these comments are comical, yet I understand!

You're young...when you get to be our age you accept reality a lot quicker.

My bad...I thought you were the one who posted you were 22....I was born in 77...so 47.
No worries! I’m not far behind you at 44. I get everyone is frustrated and well so, we’ve some have had December snows but I think and maybe history says our best periods are Jan-Feb. I could be crazy though!

I always forget the NAM has the bad BL setting and get burned by it showing colder high temps

It will yes but I'm losing hope of it being any time soon and/or substantial. I'm around depression/acceptance that winter isn't going to be what I want it to be and I've likely seen my best winters

Based on some analysis I did earlier this year, the '44-'84 median at RDU was 5.4". The '84-'24 median is 1.7". We're well on our way if something doesn't change and there's no denying we've had a lot more paltry winters in the past 40 years than we did in the previous 40.

I guess the question is how much of this is due to cyclical factors that might come back (PDO, NAO, etc.) versus how much of it is caused by AGW and its side effects. I’m not sure, but I’d assume it’s some of both. But in the long run, it does seem that pain is on the menu and we’ll have the snowfall climatology of CAE by the time I’m old (hopefully not).

My mom grew up in Durham back in the 40s and she said sometimes they would get so much snow the tobacco barns would collapse.

While we do get less snow than they did then, memories are also quite faulty and we get the impression that rare events happened a lot more than they actually did. I grew up in the 90s-00s and by my memory you’d think it snowed all the time, when in reality I was basically remembering 96, 00, and 02. The 90s were actually an awful decade for snow, the worst unless the 2020s keep on going that way…

It’s only been six years since our last 6”+ storm and even in the past, 6” storms don’t come around more than a couple times per decade, I’d estimate. What we’ve really been missing lately are the smaller 1-3” type storms, which just haven’t come around much since 2018 (exceptions being Feb 2020 and Jan 2022).

Unfortunately, since I lived in Florida from 2016-2019, I haven’t seen 6” personally since February 2015. It will be 10 years since I saw my last, in a couple months. 😭😭😭

It's only been 3 years since we've had a trace of snow.

Just checking in to see if there are any real winter storm threats.
