Misc Cold Season Complaining

This Breckenridge trip just has me like it better snow for real in Tulsa this year 🤣 I'm good for a bit to wait but like yeah. This has proven it can still snow...

The place I was at yesterday is at mid winter conditions on December 10th. Mind boggling

It verified best at 120 so obviously it’s accurate at 300!!

Man it snows West of the Apps with ease. Eastern TN has had like 100 Winter weather events so far this Winter. Please do something different.
I seem to remember a time when the mountains actually helped north ga and the Carolinas get snow/ice but it's been so long I'm starting to wonder if it was just a fever dream. I Hope classic cad winter storms are still possible 🥶

CAD (cold air damming) does, but we can't see to figure out the pieces of the puzzle to do that right anymore.

I like where the favorable teleconnections look to be between last week in Dec and into early Jan. Good climo period to support a hit

Cold air the last few years has been more to the central US, not east, so the mountains have been a barrier to the cold getting to us. When the cold makes it east, the mountains help us to lock in. The way I see it anyway.

Yeh I was just explaining how the mountains help us & how it hasn't meant a whole lot lately because we can't properly get the pieces together to take advantage of a CAD.

I completely agree on the theory of cold air having an issue getting over the Apps, especially Arctic air. There has been a prime example of it for the last few years. But I think our main issue is a poorly positioned trough.

You really have to have high pressure near and east of the Lakes to funnel it in here. The orientation/position of troughing has been unfavorable for that to happen very much, in a sustained way, at least.

What we have seen an abundance of is Highs dropping into the Rockies or Midwest and heading south or even slowly east, weakening along the way. Perhaps a nice -NAO would help. But it seems like when we get those, they're just blocking in mild Pacific air.

Damn! Winters over already according to the December thread! It was a great one!

MJO phases 7 and 8 are straight cash for most. Luckily for us we stay in 5/6 for weeks and go through both 7&8 usually in a day. It’s almost as if we wait and wait for a favorable pattern and when it’s about a week away- that pattern though not here yet is already breaking down for the inevitable torch. Such is life in the tropics. Happy holidays everyone - sorry to vent

Tbf you live in Deleware ! Your like a solid 8 degrees colder in winter than here in NC and you can really have some booming seasons … you’ll get somin!

The EC AI is so accurate I don't even know why they run it everyday. Should just run it once a week since it doesn't change. All kidding aside, it has been pretty consistent with a western ridge / eastern trough around the 21st, but as we all know, that means nothing without getting details right.

Headed for the coldest night of the season so far! 9 degrees before 9 pm, and a stiff breeze

You know things aren’t good when it’s almost mid December and the tropical thread is the most recent thread with activity.
