Misc Cold Season Complaining

Correct me if I am wrong here, but yesterday I noticed during some of the heavier returns after we flipped to ZR, only very light rain was falling instead of what I expected would be very heavy rain. I am assuming the radar beam was seeing snow or sleet above us which is why the returns looked heavy but only produced a very light rain?

I could be totally wrong lol. I am not very knowledgeable on how the radar works above us.

That was by far, one of the most exhausting and one of the worst events I’ve seen here, couldn’t even buy sleet. Already out on the 1/18-24 period as well, already can tell who’s gonna win and who isn’t, and it’s definitely not gonna be Charlotte or Raleigh.

Has Alabama always had good snows? Or did they used to get shafted when we got good ones?
I’ve been living here in Alabama all my life and i can definitely say Alabama has definitely gotten shafted a lot in the past but it also depends on where you live in Alabama

I’m facing this question now, too. Back when I was single, I’d probably just stay up, but I’m not sure she wants me staying up all night to watch sleet pellets or going to bed and setting the alarm for 3am. I look crazy. 😂
I admitted really soon about my "problem" and it was ok. Now after many years she still laughs at me from time to time, or shakes her head....maybe a few eye rolls...but now she says it's part of my charm.

Speaking of looking crazy...I hate these melting days..its always so depressing. I feel like I should stay outside every minute before it melts. Because it might be years again seeing it here. Hell for all I know it could be the last...no one is promised another year. If we could just get a couple a year I wouldn't be this way but thats too much to ask for as usual.

Not sure where to ask this. I want a sky cam or two for my community. Does anyone know prices, etc I’m legit serious wanting to do this.

Gutters are still running, just a reminder to the failboat that took off the sail the seas yesterday

Trough too far west for this upcoming pattern after we've had issues of the trough being too far east. Mother nature is absolutely pissed off at areas East of the APPS

If I didn’t have a 2.9% mortgage right now I’d move to Boone. Lol.
Sigh I'm close - 3.125%. But I've got a legitimate opportunity to move to Boston in the next several months and we are taking a sincere look at it. Climate would be heavenly for me, it's just the finances that are the concern. Cost of living is insane up there.

Boston has some really nice suburbs too. The electric rates are awful and the taxes too. Might be a trade worth making for the climate. Springs up there are pretty nasty usually though.

Yeah that’s a tough one, cost of living is so different up there. But if you can invest in it, your snow fixed would surely be filled! I’m seriously thinking about Boone when I retire. A little city, but close to everything and sure to get least a dozen inches or so a year.

It’s depressing how much melting has happened in sunny areas. A lot of places look like it never did anything now. Just bare ground.

It's the same here and we had 6 inches!!! This is the fastest melting I've seen i think in my 4 years here

But the whole storm we were barely cold enough too. Almost all the accumulation was at night

Yeah we traveled up to Cambridge and Waltham for my wife's work back in December and we actually all loved it. She is actually the one with a huge job promotion potential (we're kind of in the negotiating phase of things) but I have no doubt about the climate and city, just the cost.

Our home value has almost doubled in 5 years where I'm at. That's the good part, but the bad part is it's because Rolesville went from the small little town on the outskirts of Raleigh to full-on Raleigh suburb. It's become everything I hate about the broader Wake County / Raleigh area now. I love Boone / West Jefferson / Blowing Rock area too and have always thought about that area for retirement as well.

The Upcoming pattern looks amazing for everyone west of apps, but not so much east of there. The Winter storm coming from Austin TX to Alexandria LA to Natchez MS and points north from there around Jan 20-21 time frame will easily top anything that the Carolinas got yesterday!

I’d like to retire in Boone area but have some concerns about the health care there. I got some rabies shots at the hospital this summer in Boone and my wife brought up the health care. I dismissed he concerns until I saw a tech come out to the er to take a patient for 1 procedure and she needed something entirely different.

Yea, it might get warmer than 58 here
