Misc All Things Religious

Quick reminder that this thread is called "ALL things Religious". Not "All things Evangelical right wing". Not "All things in the Bible taken radically Fundamental" .
And not "Christians are right about everything, have the authority to decide everything for everybody, and if your not Christian you can't have an opinion here".

While we're being technical, this being an All Things Religious discussion thread within a discussion forum, one would anticipate some discussion. Groups of words like "husband and wife...husband and husband...wife and wife" are neither discussion nor religious, particularly when self-contained in a post, presumably to avoid replying directly to someone. But setting that aside, the logical inference, given where the post came in in relation to the previous post talking specifically about the sexual state of society from a Christian perspective, one could easily assume it was at least partially related to that.

Either way, discussing why someone arrives at a particular belief (assuming a particular belief has been stated, which of course is risky when you're extracting that idea from mere word clumps) seems to be fair game and would be an interesting conversation.

Joy still comes in the morning
Hope still walks with the hurting
If you're still alive and breathing
Praise the Lord
Don't stop dancing and dreaming
There's still Good News worth repeating
So lift your head and keep singing
Praise the Lord!

Great song! Great point if your still alive and breathing give Praise to the Lord in everything you do! We are so blessed.

That's such a good Christian attitude to have.. must be a great church..
Nobody is perfect, point a finger and many will be pointing back. Christians are really held to a higher than thou standard a lot of times, so in reality we should try and act as kind and nice as we can, but whenever a Christian says something that's against the grain and can be seen as standing up for one or such it's considered a travesty, there is such thing as justified anger, Heck! Even Jesus would get mad *BUT it was a justified madness that is not taking off the rails by human sin and influence, very hard to do but can be done. Not justifying somebody's behavior but one person's behavior doesn't make a church or a church leader bad.

The reverend is a tool . A tool of an agenda driven democratic political party . Where did separation of church and state go? Or is it only separate when it’s a traditional church ?
A lot of pastors are political driven, sadly. The church for too long has taken a side in political parties when we really shouldn't, no church or believer is saved by being a democratic or Republican etc. A stupid thing I see is that Christians now days group themselves more as republicans than actual believers when referring to there Christianity. It's sad that a lot of Christian teachers have alterior motives, they will be more so judged because of that.

I think people don't really understand that it's JESUS FIRST. and then everything else falls in line not vice versa as well. The law is not more important than grace. Being republican doesn't make your more apt to being saved, being straight doesn't make you more saved etc etc etc. Everybody is blinded by sin until you let go and get on your knees and confess to Jesus to come into you heart. Some become wayward after time some do not, but it's all things that fall in line when you allow your core to be shaped by God.

Christianity is Christianity it doesn't take a right wing or left wing side, only people do, and some of the stuff you may be viewing as radically fundamental and evangelical right wing, may just be truths and/or what is written in the Bible not in anyway political. Also you can have your opinion, but often times people outside of Christianity like to tell Christians what they believe and all that stuff which might not be true, so of course Christians are going to have to stand up for themselves. When somebody's eyes are blinded from the truth then they won't be able to see what's always right and wrong because there heart is not being guided by God.

This is interesting because in the Bible app today was out of Galatians 5. One of the sins of the flesh is “dissension” and that is simply to cause division due to a political stance. Very very interesting to me for sure.

What are your religious beliefs? ....... The Bible is a Christian's road map. It is God's word. It is intended to be taken literally. As I mentioned in a previous post, folks need to spend more time reading it and applying its principals and less time trying to fit in with the world.

It's amazing how all things work out when you trust in God. My whole house buying process has been relatively easy, stressful at times when I have took the burden on myself, but I'm always reminded that God never intended for us to be stressed out, his yolk is always easy. When i let God take control and take it out of my hands I have been so much happier and things take a lot better and do a lot better. Just got news that our house appraisel was 10,000 over what we are paying, and closing will likely be today. After worrying to begin with that it'd be a whole nother week or so. Like it says in scripture the Lord provides for the birds of the air and the creatures of the land what more so would God not provide to his special creation.

Many times we take the burden onto ourselves, but many times God has said give that burden on to me, it's a great travesty that Christians don't learn or make a habit of allowing God to work his will through your circumstances and life.

In many ways the husband and wife relation shares the bond of Christ and his believers. Which has been nonstop this whole process with me and my wife.

Me the husband, I've constantly been the backbone to my wife which has not been easy at times but I tell her everytime to lay out her problems to me and let me take everything and not to worry. Which is basically what God does for us. And my wife has been stressed needing reconciliation and help comes to me, but often times we are to prideful to hand over the responsibility but me the husband like God is always extending the hand out for rest and help.

The greatest single cause of atheism in the world today is Christians who acknowledge Jesus with their lips and walk out the door and deny Him by their lifestyle. That is what an unbelieving world simply finds unbelievable.

— Brennan Manning

I first heard that quote listening to a DC Talk song, "What if I Stumble" back in the 90s. I'll admit I don't know much about Brennan Manning or his beliefs but what I do know is that Christians have missed opportunities time and time again because of exactly what he stated. We fail to show the love that an all knowing, all powerful, forgiving, perfect God has shown to us, when we ourselves don't deserve it. We can love those who commit acts that aren't Godly or inline with Biblical teachings, but of course, those actions get misconstrued, taken to mean that if we don't accept a certain behavior then we must be filled with hate.
This isn't true and my point is I think many of us fail to effectively deliver that message. Hate the sin not the sinner isn't just a "catchy phrase" it literally is truth but do we show it as Christians?
Today's Bible App verse of the day is from John 13:34, Jesus said "A new commandment I give you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another." There are no conditions placed on that love and Jesus also reminds us to love our enemies.
Now, this doesn't mean I condone sinful behavior, neither does Jesus, but, I certainly can and should love those who commit those sinful acts. We should love them and pray for them as Jesus loves us, unconditionally. We should love them because we are commanded to do so, we should also have love for lost souls and act accordingly, in a way that exemplifies that love, planting the seed and praying God will convict them.

We should be so concerned for lost souls, that we do not act in such a way that deters them from Christianity, but draws them to it. This is challenging in today's world, where we are told at every turn that because we do not condone homosexuality or transgenderism or sexual behavior not sanctioned by God's Holy Word, then we must be bigots'. I don't hate a single individual who lives lifestyles that are not sanctioned by our Creator and I've probably missed the mark on how I act in those situations I'm sure. What I should do is pray for forgiveness for my own shortcomings, lift them up in prayer, ask God to convict their hearts and pray they will allow Him into their lives.

We as Christians can only plant the seed, share and show His love, live our lifestyles in accordance with His instruction, not in a way that can be viewed as a denial of his existence but in acknowledgement of who He is and pray, daily, for our own forgiveness and those who have yet to accept Him as their personal Savior.

2 Peter 3:9 says this - The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

Not all will come to repentance and my heart aches for those, but it is not God's desire for anyone to perish and as long as one has breath of life they have hope and we as Christians should never give up on them.

Good post!

Thanks, not written with that RC eloquence or flair but definitely from the heart.
I appreciate it, but you said it better than I could. Truth doesn't need eloquence or flair.

Edit:

"Christians" far too often use the Bible or Christianity to condemn or pass judgment onto others. So, when somebody comes and says, "Well the Bible is wrong because it teaches people to hate and that God is evil", it is an immediate indication that that individual is not reacting to what the Bible says or what Christianity really is supposed to be about. But instead, they're reacting to someone else's example of what the Bible says.

It's easy, because of some unfortunate examples of "Christians", to stand back and point a finger at Christianity and say, "See, they are just brainwashed and say this or that and then they themselves do all these wrong things: destroy families, hurt people, act hypocritically, etc.". But you can literally take any group: atheists, LGBT members, Muslims, farmers, etc. and find somebody that can list the same sort of examples.

The aversion to the Bible is not that some who claim to believe it are hypocrites and are mean, and that is a big turn-off that's just too great to overcome. The real problem is that it defines right and wrong and it places mankind under the conviction of sin against a holy God. People would much rather do what they want and not have anybody or anything else tell them how to live, thank you very much. So they use Christians who don't act like Christians as an excuse to make proclamations as to why the Bible is this or the Bible is that, without really trying to understand Scripture and who God really is.

God is not evil, and the Bible does not teach that people who are sinners should be downtrodden or cast out of society. It teaches that God is holy and mankind is not. Mankind will not be able to enter the into presence of a holy God unless through Jesus Christ. The overarching premise is to love people and care about them enough to bring them to Jesus through words, deeds, and testimony and to be a living example/a reflection of Christ. Do we fail? Yes. But that doesn't mean the Bible and what it teaches is wrong.

Good post Met,RC. End of day all that matters is having a relationship with Jesus Christ. The ALL in Romans 3:23 is the man in the mirror as much as it is a man on death row, a person of diff political persuassion, socio economic status, etc fill in the blank. John 3 :17 is good way to keep perspective of why Jesus came into the world.
Heres john 3:16 and 17. As clear a mission statement from God as it can be.

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him

I think our failure as Christians today and I’m as guilty as anyone is our lives are so full of hypocrisy the world doesn’t want what we have.

Do we express joy when times are bad? Do we constantly harp on politicians in front of those around us? Do we have peace when the world is going nuts? Do we look, act or think any different than the world does? If the world could see what we watch on TV or listen to on the radio would it convince them we are genuine? Are we truly content? What words come out of mouth in public or private? Could the world pick us out as different in public if we do not mention Christ or church?

For the most part we as Christians talk a good game yet live like the world, it’s really no wonder they don’t take us seriously.
