RDU reading 98/72. The bouncing around only started with this heatwave 3 days ago. Is it possible it’s valid ? What’s going on ? I know wunderground isn’t the best of sources but stations around the area there show 94-97 mostly . Interesting , though it seems possible it hits 100 today .
88 here caught an outflow. But it seems like when we have a certain setup RDU can outperform everyone

Don't you just love it when it thunders for 3 hours and get only a trace of rain.

Looking at interhourly obs looks like RDU had a bunch of 99 readings last 30 minutes and 1 100 degrees reading at 3:15. Won't know the official high till 7:51 but for now, I will guess it's 99. Temp since then has dropped to 97. Think today's high has been reached.
Sounds like 100 to me

You'd think though it would happen more though. Seems it's only a summer thing in very specific situations

Yeah but this isn’t a common issue and nor is the station next to the runway . This started 3 days ago .

Sarcasm aside, RDU has had only 0.87" of rainfall in the last 23 days. Soil moisture has diminished significantly thus helping it to be hotter than most surrounding locations and providing absolutely fantastic walking weather: 4PM 99 with a HI of 107..I wish I were there!

Yeah definitely sarcasm but I will say there are areas around RDU that have had much more rain and they are baking as well, maybe the air temp is tempered a degree or two but the DP is higher. I don't really care if it's 98 or 102 if the HI is over a 105 that's brutal, soil moisture or not. Lol

When I get home I’ll get a link for ya. NCEI has a site with information on every station including biases and obstructions present, shows former locations, and distance from runway. Proof that’s the station though ? Not outright denying it is not , but you know for sure ?

Yeap I used to work in the weather office taking obs in the early 2000s which was in the old Million Air hanger which was directly across the runway from the sensors.

It’s been moved since then to a different side of the airport , it used to be in downtown Raleigh 100 years ago lol. Think it’s on the northern west side now of the airport .
