Misc 2021-22 Fall/Winter Whamby Thread

Wishing for a ice storm, Is no difference wishing for Mega hail, or mega supercells, or severe wx. Seeing weather extremes is fun in general

Or wishing for cold/below normal temperatures in spring (or any time of year) in my case. Different strokes for different folks. Live and let live. Of course the wishing doesn’t make any of it happen, regardless.

I've always wished for snow even if it is in early spring. I know some people would rather have warm days in March, but giving up a couple warm days for a rare late snowfall when you have ~8 months of warmth here is worth it IMO. Warm weather is guaranteed, snow is not.

Snow is seemingly guaranteed here every weekend

Terrible take, you can have QLCS/derechos, etc. but just like ice storms, this weather causes destruction, it’s as simple as that. They both do. No difference

You do know that derechos are fairly rare, right? And when they do occur, the "mega winds" as you describe them last maybe a few minutes in a narrow swath of the line.

Ice storms are not rare. In fact, they're extremely common and can occur several times each winter, although maybe not in the exact same locations.

I must admit, it's bit disappointing it snowed 3 weekends in a row and we barely have 3 inches to show for it.
Yeah right around 4 inches here which would lead me to consider this an average winter. The way AN December would drop it down a peg but the cold Jan would bump it up so still right around an average winter so far depending the outcome of Feb/Mar

What is your point? He’s rooting on an icestorm and you’re implying you root for a derecho/severe thunderstorms. Are you saying he shouldn’t root on an icestorm but it is ok if you root for severe thunderstorms?

Severe is fun, ice is fun, weather is fun. It has its downfalls that you hate to see tho

I never said severe thunderstorms didn't "have its downfalls."

And just because different types of extreme weather may be fun to track doesn't mean they're all equal in the extent of destruction and inconveniece they can cause.

For example, extremely cold temperatures for an extended period of time can cause Texas' power grid to fail.

Conversely, extremely hot temperatures for an extended period of time do not.
