Im sure they do.

Thanks, DD. I think DD really stands for Doctor Doc. I may start calling you Doc!

@Dewpoint Dan it started last couple of days as worsening pain when chewing on that side (it is a molar). So, l've been trying not to chew there. But now it is starting to ache sometimes when I'm not even eating.

Edit: @Dewpoint Dan are you Dr. Dewpoint?

When is the last time you've had an X-ray? Sounds like a cavity that has found its way to the nerve. Any slight change in temperature to that tooth is going to set it off. I would be in the dentist chair first thing tomorrow morning.

Piggy back Tylenol then Advil , one lasts longer and between the two, they can help immensely! Sounds like a root canal is in your future! ??

I just had a 6 month check/prophy on 8/31. Bitewing xrays were done then and were fine.

The tooth that hurts has a gold crown that was put on I think 10+ years ago.

I've wasted so much money on root canals.. they eventually fail and the tooth has to come out anyway.. I'd yank it if it's a molar.

The decay can continue under the crown, and work down to the root

I think the reason I got the crown way back when was that the molar had cracked.

Anyway, off to Walgreen's I go to try Orajel first to see if it works.. If not, I'll take Tylenol and/or Advil.

Edit: I do have a very hard time flossing back there because the floss keeps breaking.

I had a decent cavity in a back molar and I think the dentist kind of messed it up. After a few months it went to throbbing. I went to see another dentist expecting to hear him say it needed a root canal. His disagreed and said the X-rays looked ok and to give it a chance to heal. A few weeks later the throb subsided. It comes back for a day or so every few months, but then goes away.

I would just take ibuprofen and give it few weeks if the pain medicine knocks out the pain.
