Back in the 1940s, my father was forced to leave NCSU by his parents due to "Wine, Women and Song." I think the final straw with his parents was when he sold all of his text books for beer money. My grandparents made him attend a local business college, which led to a career in radio broadcasting.
Lmao! He sold all his books for beer money! Absolute class act ! ------- legend man! You have an amazing father right there !

I love your avatar's boobies but your Iowa snow is getting annoying! ;)
Y’all seriously aren’t rooting for me to be here for the all time snowiest winter? I’m at 55” or so, the all time snowiest winter is around 75”! We got this!⛄

Dude I’m fantasizing about tornado outbreaks on the daily . Today I fantasized about one cleaning up the coast of all the developments . Giant EF5s all across Brunswick county . I was nicer on Wilmington with only a couple EF2s. Another one of my favorites is a massive outbreak over Raleigh with EF5s destroying all of Cary holly springs Fuquay morrisville and apex . Wake forest I fantasize that the dam on falls lake bursts on the town.
I laughed at this a lot harder than I should’ve. ?

Don’t worry I have 5 inch ice fantasies as well. One of my favorites and the funny part is I bet it’s possible . Probably a .0005% chance of it happening in a given year . Wonder if we could find evidence of it in tree rings from hundreds of years ago.
You don’t have to fantasize. It happened 22 years ago!

Remember when things like this used to happen, those days are over
No but I wonder if a storm like this could ever happen View attachment 76278
I am legitimately curious to know how many of these there are in history. Something tells me memory is remembering these being more frequent than history shows

Thank you for jackpotting MBY since I can barely even seem to get fringed on a GFS fantasy snow 384 hours out anymore (with the exception of those MONSTER GFS runs about 2 or 3 weeks ago)

I think people forget storms too. I have seen a couple of people from the Huntsville area posting that the snow this week was the first in ten years, yet this NWS map from the February 25, 2015 storm shows heavy snowfall across all of Madison County.

Also, this news story from WHNT has photos from the February 12-13, 2014 storm across North and Central Alabama, showing a nice snowfall in the Huntsville area. We had almost 5 inches at my place during that storm, with higher amounts to my north. Maybe it wasn't as impressive in Huntsville, as the NWS office there didn't archive a report about it.

It would be nice if these storms were logged regionally and not by state or nws office. I think it would help gain a lot of perspective. I don't disagree with you though the nickel and dime events certainly aren't remembered

Credit severe-weather.eu for this morning laugh
In late winter and early spring, just before the start of storm season, storm chasers suffer from SDS – Storm/Supercell Deprivation Syndrome. This is a serious psychological condition, caused by a long abstinence from storm chasing, lasting from last autumn. SDS may manifest itself in a number of ways. Typical symptoms include: somewhat neurotic multiple-checking of various models, particularly at 240+ hrs, enhanced irritability, heightened activity on social media, particularly in chaser groups and discussing long past setups and chases, again. Universally, watching Youtube videos and posting photos of storms from past seasons on social media is no longer an effective treatment.

Fortunately, this condition is reversed in the first two weeks or so of chasing. As the chaser is lifted from what has commonly been called a bottomless pit of despair, the upswing may be exceedingly strong. We have prepared a short dictionary, which may prove useful in interpreting early season storm chaser reports:

What chasers sayWhat chasers mean / see
rapidly rotatingI think it’s rotating. Maybe the photos will show it.
rapidly developingThese cloud have been looking the same for the past half hour.
impressive setupMarginal instability, some shear.
possible supercellPulse cell, multicell, any cell.
likely supercellMulticell, supercell, fat pulse cell.
hugeThere is something there.
It’s a short driveIt’s 1000 km one way, but I’m desperate.
Had some structureRain-free base.
There’s a good chance1 out of 10 models shows it.
It’s iffyGuaranteed bust, but I’m going anyway.
Moderate instability100-200 J/kg MLCAPE
Extreme instability, for April400-500 J/kg MLCAPE
I hope you get a good oneIf I do too :p
Great catch by XY!Aaaaa! Noooo! Die! Why didn’t I catch it?!
After the first two weeks of storm season a storm chaser typically finds inner balance, rendering the above dictionary (mostly) useless.

ive always wondered how many crazy storms we have had in the past 500-1,000yrs or so. wild to think we only have reliable weather obs for the past 100 years. i bet there have been some insane storms if you go back far enough. imagine the native americans living in charlotte or rdu getting smoked by the superstorm of 875 where they got 35" of powder.

Or the winter heatwave of 1156 where it hit 86 degrees on February 1. Or the ice storm of 1567 where 8 inches of ice accumulated , or the hurricane of 1321 where a storm with 880mb pressure and sustained 180 mph winds that extended 50 miles from the center of the 1400 mile wide storm made landfall and went up the entire east coast !

A March repeat I do not want is 2018. The one where we got teased with about 10 novelty slush dusting events. I thought it would never stop.

2018 doesn’t seem different than this coming March . Feel like that one had a persistent southeast Canada vortex and a sharp sw to ne gradient where the further west and south you went , west especially , the warmer it was . Could be wrong I’m sure fro knows .
