Something tells me that most AL and SE TN folks maybe joining the Carolinas within the next 24-36 hours. RGEM and the Hrrr models both have trended warmer for Alabama and now most Models now shows rain for about 85+ percent of the state .

The US is getting amazing winter weather right now. Sucks for most in the SE but still amazing. Cold has settled into the southcentral US and is not moving. Storms then run up to the east (west of most for us) and keep dumping storm after storm. Memphis is getting crushed. Their temps and winter storms look like Minnesota. Current all of the state of Texas is under winter storm warnings. Of course I'm jealous but still amazed.

Outside of January 1940/1977, has there ever been a time where "eastern" sections of the SE have had such a prolonged period of intense cold as places like Memphis/Little Rock are currently experiencing? I've just accepted the fact that there's seemingly no correct "combination" out there anymore that brings periods of sustained cold/any significant semblance of a major winter storm to areas east of a longitudinal line (outside of the mountains) from virtually the middle of Alabama.

Jan 1892,Feb 1895,Feb 1899,Jan 1982,Jan 1988,Dec 1989,etc are times/years that comes to mind where the eastern SE had sustained cold with plenty of winter storm opportunities.

Unfortunately, this is very telling when far SE Texas (almost Brownsville)gets winter weather, but not Central AL and points east. I'm not sure if it's even possible for the eastern SE to get cold/wintry anymore, regardless of teleconnections or ENSO.
