GSP says nada outside the mountains, but they have been bad with winter weather this winter lol, I think I agree with them this time around tho

CFS weeklies look darn good

View attachment 13857

That was from yesterday. Today's at 0Z (CFS weeklies) looked fantastic, themselves, all the way through the run! It was literally the best run I had ever seen! However, the 6Z looked like poop overall, a drastic change from the run just 6 hours prior.

I thought this winter was fantastic back on December 10. But after we have gone without a single flake since in the climatologically most favorable month for snow, my opinion of this winter starting to change. Looks like RDU will do worse than the western south in this one. Screw this winter aside from December 9 and 10!

The weather sucks, the people suck, the taxes suck, it stinks, parts of San Francisco are ok, but only parts. It mostly sucks.
quit bitcin' about winter ... and btw ... how did San Fran end up in a SE weather board ...

and in the meantime, no one's died from frostbite ...

Snow lovers need to move to this farm at the base of the Grand Tetons near Tetonia, Idaho. I've been watching this webcam for several years and it's amazing how much snow they receive. Some years it starts snowing in September and continues until May.

I wonder if the December snowstorm in NC was the kiss of death for the rest of us this winter?

I say nah but I've been shot down already on that big time.

The real kiss of death was what we thought would happen in the ENSO didn't happen. The consensus thought that we'd get a weak-mod El Nino, instead we got a very weak one to the point where the MJO will affect the weather, when it usually doesn't in Ninos. If everyone knew that we basically wouldn't have had a Nino, we likely would have seen a dramatically different winter forecast. Instead, basically everyone will bust on their long range winter forecast.

If anything, this is the winter that should show you that Mother Nature is going to do what she wants to do.

FWIW: I don't think winter is over after this upcoming week, and at some point in February we'll have another chance or two to cash in on a little winter weather.

In TN. Below TN, we are all in Hell now.

So instead of trying to chase anyway and use LaFayette, GA as a camp out ground for a day or two (because the flash freeze would worry me about possibly getting stuck), I'll probably use Tuesday to go to another job agency in the afternoon.

Pray for me, y'all (if you do it), I finished at a real technical college in May last year and I'm on the real struggle bus with getting a job. For what I'm applying for, there's barely been anything new posted for at least 2-3 months. Pray that either that works or I get accepted for the job I interviewed for in Atlanta last week.

Go for it lady! Things (other than snow which is a fantasy) have a remarkable way of working themselves out in ways never imagined ... and for the best! ;)

I agree it’s close, I’m more talking about the information being put out by Mets and the Weather Service. Was Snow Jam the same set up as this one?

Their actually calling taking applications for anyone with any fertilizer spreaders or anything like that to come to Atlanta and spread salt to keep the roads clean because of the super bowl for this snow event

And problem with Feb is by Feb 11th we are in a truly hideous pattern, these dont change in a couple of days. Usually takes a couple of weeks at best. Maybe we get a March 1960 repeat.

Too bad 1959-60 cranked out a big dog in mid February that's comparable in magnitude to the early December storm. Even that super backloaded winter is about to pass us :(

If only we could do 1978-79 over again, plethora of ice storms in Jan 1979 in NC then 2 big dogs & a clipper in less than 2 weeks in Feb w/ the most famous one on President's Day.

They don't make winters like this anymore

I recall the ice storm and President's Day snowstorm rather well. I had recently turned six years old before the former. Winter weather, at least around these parts, doesn't seem quite the same.

I remember during the ice storm of January 19-20, 1979 a warm front moved into the Southern Piedmont during the evening of the 20th sending the temperature skyrocketing from the low 30's to the low 60's on a roaring south wind. The sound of the ice melting and falling off the heavy ice laden trees was incredible.
