Misc 2019 Banter & Friendly Conservation

Well my computer is completely f—-d. I’ve only had it 2 yrs next month. Great timing with the holidays coming up. *sarcasm* FML If it’s not one problem it’s a million.? Only good thing is since peak season is starting at Fedex Ground where I work I get the opportunity to make an extra $2/hr starting next month for the next several weeks if I go full-time. I was on the fence about it, but after this...might as well.

I managed to brick my laptop of about 3 years a few months ago and am now on a hand-me down PC that's about 5 or 6 years old and still runs great. Unfortunately it isn't a cheap one either but it's had upgrades over the years to keep it running well. Of course I'm not sure what died on yours since it can be anything.

I wish I could say for certain I knew myself. lol From what I’ve been able to conclude is there was a corrupted file, possibly malware that completely corrupted the Windows 10 OS. I did a cloud backup and tried to do a system restore, but to no success. Every time it tries to reboot, it goes straight back to the Dell Support Diagnosis app. This is my 3rd Dell desktop, but it’s the first that I bought myself. The first two my mom bought me back when I was in middle/high school and they both each managed to run just fine for 5+ yrs.

Not sure if you tried this?

There is also an Fn key which is a function key on dell laptops. Maybe that will work?

Didn’t work either. After doing further research into the matter. It’s definitely corrupted Windows 10 OS and likely a corrupted hard drive via Dell Support. It really sucks, but as crazy as it sounds I’m kinda ok with it. I was gradually having buyer’s remorse about buying this computer over the past year. If the warranty hadn’t expired I would send it in to be repaired, but I rather just get a new computer later than pay to replace the hard drive. This was a Dell Inspiron AIO Desktop btw. My mistake was probably taking a chance and going with an Inspiron instead of XPS like my previous desktop.

buy a new hard drive. recommend a seagate momentus 500gb

I don't like Windows 10. I kinda wish they had built off Windows 7. My computer will freeze at times for dumb reasons and it's hard to get out of it with Ctrl-Alt-Del. I'd much rather see a blue screen of death than a frozen computer that I have to restart anyway. I'm not a young child that is going to get upset at it. With my old computer that I upgraded from Windows 8 I hard powered it off so many times due to the freeze issues that it would not boot into Windows. Eventually because of a situation where we had to go chase after my (now late) grandma I accidentally left it on, it ran dead, and when it was recharged it didn't have the ability to go back on the internet.

I’m indifferent to Windows 10 I don’t really like it or dislike it. It’s nowhere as bad as 8 was imo. My only experience with 8 was when I was in tech college and our PC lab had Windows 8, man it was terrible. It was confusing and a pain in the butt to navigate thru. I think Windows 7/XP are the best OS Microsoft has made in modern times. There’s a reason a lot of schools/businesses continued to use XP/7 YEARS past their prime. I remember reading an article a few years ago how some businesses were using XP after 10 rolled out publicly despite Microsoft cutting off support for it.

That's no good. I haven't heard of anything preventing the boot menu from showing up. I'm also in the market for another laptop and will probably wait for the black Friday deals.

I think both aren't great operating systems. I think Windows 8 is definitely the "Windows ME" of this generation though or maybe your updated Vista. I got a laptop with it as a gift (my first laptop was really just a netbook) for me going to college and when I saw that there was no desktop at the start I said...what. I changed it though and got accustomed to it, but I had heard of plenty of issues with it. It's life was ended fast for good reason.

I just don't like the bells and whistles that Windows 10 has if you don't custom install (which I did).

Windows95 was the best. No better OS than that. NT was second and maybe XP third. Windows 8 and 10 absolutely suck. And 98 sucked too. And so did ME.
