Misc 2019 Banter & Friendly Conservation

Ok, things are getting blown a little bit out of proportion. If anyone has any specific posts that the feel are over the line, PM me or another mod and we’ll work through the issues.

This thread is an outlet for griping about the weather and expressing disappointment or frustration with it. It is NOT an outlet to jab at other posters either directly or indirectly. If you’re picking at a friend, that’s fine. But if you’re picking a fight or being rude, that’s not going to work.

Hopefully, a visitor will be able to easily make the distinction between legitimate weather analysis in the January thread and the obvious parody that occurs in this thread, especially if they have any experience with other weather forums or social media in general.

If a warning label would help, that’s fine. It’ll probably attract more attention. But it’s fine, if that’s what is desired.

I think the bottom line is that we need to remember to be nice to each other. And that goes for the main thread too. Not everyone knows how to look for good patterns or what features are good or bad in different situations. If that bothers you, then please try to use it as a teachable moment and not an opportunity to express frustration or be condescending. That turns off visitors too.

Again, please let me or a mod know if there are specific issue you have in mind. And please, let’s try to be nice and respect each other, even though we may not always agree. Being rude and condescending and passive aggressive isn’t a good path to take.

Good point. I think if you guys would point out how it's going to be 33 and rain in the Upstate more often it would really help the pattern discussion threads reach new heights. I know that's why I come here - to see if this pattern is going to be 33 and rain in two posters backyards.

MAYBE, some posters should put in a little more effort to add some quality discussion instead of repetitive babble. If I were admin, if I saw that post more than once a day you'd be banned from posting the rest of the day. Better hope that never happens.

Me too

Like others have said this thread is 99% jesting and BS. However, I do not condone personal attacks and cheap shots. I do think this thread adds value in that it does keep the pattern thread cleaner and it has great entertainment value. Everyone was complaining about the one liners and gifs in the main thread and this seemed to have solved that mostly. Personal attacks should be dealt with on a case by case basis if they arise. We are all just trying to have a little fun until we have a storm in our crosshairs.

Exhibit A: ? That’s why we do it in here. We leave the amazing pattern prognostications up to the winter weather experts and the ones who think they’re winter weather experts. Most of us just want snow and don’t want to be lead down a frozen rabbit hole and sold some unattainable pipe dream. It will snow again, but until then we will talk about these 33 degree rain events

I don’t see how taking a blatant jab in here is any different than a educated weather person responding to a less knowledgeable poster in the main thread with a condescending smart aleck tone. I could argue that the later would be more likely to turn someone off to weather as everyone wants to participate and be heard without being made look like a dumbass

It seems many of you are so much better at tone over text than I am. I always find it very hard to read tone in text...but in that case, at least then the poster replying to the actual post, giving the person a chance to defend their argument. Here it’s just cowardly jabs about posts and/or posters in another section. That’s the point. I’ve been in wx forums since the eastern days, and I was always taught “read more, post less”...when someone knowledgeable shuts you down, it might not be fun and yeah it sucks, but maybe they’re right? If I disagree with someone like Webb or 1300 (I have in the past), I know I better be ready to defend my point, because they know their stuff.

That's not in the thread rules...

Rule number 2 about bitching about other poster...”2) No complaining about other posters. If you have a problem with another poster, please PM the staff.”

Sorry to open up a big can of worms, I just remember how other forums were and don’t want what I consider the best forum to go down the same path. Rain Cold outlined the overall point nicely. ----- about the weather, not posts/posters! ;)

Glad to be the premier exhibit. Hey, it's up to you to decide why you come here. If you want to mindlessly post drivel and be on the ignore list of all the cogent posters, that's up to you. And it's most certainly not done just in here, despite the claims of that being the purpose of this thread.

Lmao at the main thread posts about what a big snow is considered in the southeast. 3-5 inches isn’t a big snow? No wonder so many people act as if someone tinkled in thier Cheerios every winter.

I consider 3.5"+ a major snow and 1.5"+ a major sleet at ATL. These have occurred about once every 3.5 years at ATL since the 1870s.
