I might not can give you some explanation on why the Euro day 10 cold won't come, but I can easily say based off recent history, recent as in the last few weeks, that nothing around day 10 has been verifying much.

I didn’t say anything about people not knowing anything or having enough answers to back up an opinion to satisfy me, I have never even suggested such a thing. I just want a discussion that’s all. I don’t care who joins in.

Sorry you felt attacked here by my quoting you, in hindsight it wasn’t the way to go.

I just don’t want “cliques” to form here as they did on the other forum, we are separating into groups. Everyone by know clearly knows the heat misers, and I was hoping to avoid that. But as long as this thread exists we won’t be able to get past it.

True, but if I were looking at a forum to join, I wouldn't join one where the biggest thread was a bunch of people whining and griping at each other. It just looks bad. We never ever needed one of these on TW.

I have done absolutely nothing to you, and I also apologized for assuming you were a guy when you corrected me and said you were female. Im a very nice guy and just want people to get along.

It’s sad you feel the need to suggest posters block me. That shouldn’t be allowed on the forum (publicly telling posters to block other posters, as if it’s an agenda). Should we all list users we have on ignore for personal preference? That will make those folks feel so welcome!

You were the second person to assume that I meant Winter was over. That wasn't what I meant. And trust me, I don't disagree with anything you say, I'm pulling for what you are saying and demonstrating and learning along the way.

I simply was just saying that personally, I am not excited about what day 10 shows as far as the cold coming back. No, I can't base that off anything man, just the fact that nothing has been going right in that range lately

Honestly, I'd just like to move on from this. Like I said, I follow your page on twitter and love what you post for the Carolina's.

This thread is great. Just as much as it aggravates some people that there is a group that's consistently optimistic that cold is around the corner and the models are all wrong when showing warmth..there are others that get aggravated when warmth is discussed. That's not going away if you remove this thread...the people that don't like to discuss warmth want this thread gone because they know they can try and control it in the main/storm threads.

Attacking people shouldn't be tolerated, should be some repercussions for that. That has been and will always be a problem whether this thread exists.

If this thread wasn’t here, where would we go
to talk about the rain and heat we’ve been getting? No one likes to talk about reality in the main thread. We either get in line and talk about fantasy land snow and cold or we get blasted for bittercasting. Some want it both ways and that’s just not doable

Whereas I agree that the starters of this forum are mainly from TW and this forum replaced TW when it went dormant, I'd say the core of the current active posters is actually from a combo of TW and AmericanWx….maybe more from American. I was with American before TW by the way.
 
I like everyone on here, even the ones I don’t like. Again 99% of us will never meet in person so you should never get to the point of anger, ignore someone if you want but I would say just let it go, this isn’t real life . This is fantasy and we are all apart of it. Jimmy and Tarfeathers BS 99% of the time and it’s funny, just lighten up and don’t take everything so seriously. This thread isn’t made to be serious. We all need a good ribbing every now and then, it’s keeps you young. Hell I even like Brick even though he drives me crazy with the stuff he shoots out.

That's just it...it really drives some people crazy if someone thinks it may be warm rest of winter without snow. Essentially the storm/main thread has blackballed discussion of warmth and we have to do that in here. This is our happy place.

The models were consistent days prior. There was some snow, but nothing like what the models showed. This shows that you can't always put trust in the models, and that things can change within minutes/hours.

I don't think it would get ugly. Its just that TW to this site isn't an apples to apples comparison.

As for this thread I personally don't think it's that bad and gives people a place to go if they choose to complain. I do though can see how it could be taken in the wrong context. Im indifferent toward the fate of the thread but i do believe if we take this thread away then we will have to moderate the main threads tightly.

Of course looking at the models makes me want to come back up to run across the field to pick up winter again, but I think I'll go get some water first and walk there instead. Models are getting my attention but I still think there isn't hope for any snow here. Call me a quitter, but I feel it's headed that way.
 
As a "new" person, former TW, this thread was the reason I felt like I could get good info and conversation about the current weather. I was often hand-slapped in TW for banter in the main threads, and I totally get that. My fluency in sarcasm gets me in trouble.

There's no question that those of us in the deep south have a lot of emotions about winter weather and I used this thread to commiserate during the epic fail yesterday. Misery, laughter, and snark love company. The meme section alone made me laugh. It takes a thick skin to deal with some of the back and forth, but again...I'll never meet any of you in this lifetime. Too many of you are from the Carolinas. ;-) And according to one smartass, I'm old. So...I'll forget most of this tomorrow.

The Banter thread is about everything. This one seems to crossover some but it's mainly commiserating on the current weather situation and I am glad it's here.

TL;DR version. Keep the thread. Keep the personal attacks in your own backyard. Make me laugh. This winter sucks. Southerners love winter.

I'm not making an apples to apples site wise comparison. I'm comparing discussion wise. We all could debate everything weather related in one thread.

I agree completely with Jon in the aspect that this thread is allowing sides to be formed and thus ignored on any thread by those with disagreeing with them.

It also looks bad to any new members who click on this thread to see a warm 384hr GFS runs posted with the caption "Woo torch!". It would be as crazy to have a Refigerator thread where all is posted is the CMC with its massive phoney cold outbreaks.

If you want to gripe, there is already a banter thread. As much as I am pro banter, I wouldn't be against more moderation in this aspect. Just my two cents.

I'm with you on this one. I'll raise my heartbeat when those models get within 24 hours. Then I will have only wasted 24 hours of my life instead of 4 days.

I would be willing to bet that taking the entire site into consideration, out of 100 potential new members, 95 of them would not be deterred from signing up because this thread is active on the forum. The flip side is that if it were not here and venting was done in the main thread, the net result would be the same, and by necessity, the moderation would become really tight. My guess is, that would deter far more new member sign-ups and probably alienate quite a few current members.

There are always going to be groups of people within a community who migrate together. That's a byproduct of humanity. You can't moderate it away or force it not to happen. Delete the thread. It's still going to exist. The difference with this site is, you don't have a staff that participates in or encourages cliques and tries to stifle certain points of view or posters whose opinions they don't really care for. As has been said many times, there is an active attempt to restrain moderation and allow discussions.

I don't know there's wrecks here with the threat of snow and obviously we saw what happened a few years back across the SE with surprise snow. I'd bet that if we had true whiteout conditions on an interstate while people were commuting it would be just as bad. But when it snows here everybody goes home. In the NE most people still have to work.
