If everyone can keep my dad in prayers, my dad was driving and hit one of those yellow cones, so he got out of his car to move the cone from the middle of the road and a car struck him. He's in the hospital. Thanks in advance.
Will be praying that he recovers quickly!

Oh no! Prayers are going up for his recovery

Wow! RDU has more snowfall than many "snowy" east coast cities so far! Amazing!

Thanks everyone for your prayers and cocerns for my dad. He's doing ok, left legs is broken all up and his spine is cracked, plus he has no feelings in his leg which is not good. Continue to lift him up, thanks.

No surprise here. Brick always gets all of the snow :( Before I die, I hope to have a one winter where I get more snow than Raleigh. Just one. Has that ever happened? GSP with more seasonal snow than RDU?

It has happened many times. In 2016-17, RDU airport only recorded 0.8" of snow while Greenville reported 3.6". It also occurred in 2015-16 when RDU reported 1.4" and Greenville reported 2.6". GSP fared better in the January 2016 and January 2017 winter storms where RDU was near the rain/snow line.

Bless him! Will continue the prayers!

Hoping he can make a sound recovery.

Hmm, now that I look at that, I'm not sure that snow map that was drawn is correct, TBH. As I've said before I wasn't at home and was at university (and with that storm I thank God I wasn't), but my dad wrote a blog post about that crazy ice storm, I've looked at pictures plenty, and I really do not see much snow at all. They might have picked up a dusting but that was likely it. (Edit: hmm, maybe not now that I'm looking at one of the pictures now, although that could very well have also been sleet)

However with the other storm, yeah they did pick up what looked like 2-3 inches of snow to me on the picture my mom sent to me. The last time this house has seen more than a dusting (although I saw more than a dusting out on the road last year in early December).

There was a storm (sleet & snow) at the end of January, and then a similar storm two weeks later in February (a three-part storm, as we received wintry weather three consecutive days).

You are right ColaSnow, I forgot about the storm on January 28, I'm still sure I hardly saw any snow from the ice storm though.

Just asked my dad out of curiosity and he said "I don't think so" on the February storm. I'm not sure he's correct though based off pictures, but I think Richmond County was probably more of a dusting than what the map shows (which was 1-2").

Edit: And tbh I don't think the second map with January 28th is right either, although I'm guessing off of what I saw on that picture.

Well I got nearly blanked in 2016 5 miles south of 85. Would you say southern Greenville county’s climo is better than southeastern wake or about the same?

I'm in Northwestern Wake so I cannot really speak for Southeastern Wake other than from what I have heard from people that live there, but they tend to get a lot less snow than we do. I'd say GSP is probably fairly similar to Southeastern Wake, maybe they get a bit less snow than Southeastern Wake.

JBs daily summary is spot on for January I believe, a 15-20 day thaw and BAM- we are in dead of winter and the fun began, I would take this time to load up on firewood and ice crappers. Fun times ahead after/ around New Years.

Don't like to toss religion out in the public square, but here's an exception ... he's on the Rosary list tomorrow ... ;)

I hear you, I havent seen an inch of snow since 2011. The 2014 storm was all sleet and ice in my area.
Wow, I can’t imagine waiting that long to see an inch of snow. I’ve only not seen at least one 1inch snow storm once out of 12 winters of living here and that was the 2016-2017 winter. I think I only saw flurries twice the whole season which is nuts. I didn’t think it was possible living near Kentucky to see that little amount of snow but that winter was a massive torch I hope to never experience again. This winter I’ve seen snow fall 5 times already along with 1 day of freezing rain so I’m already ahead of the entire 2016-2017 winter lol. Well I really hope this year you will see a big snow and it looks like a better shot then usual.

IKR... After the 2011-12 winter, I thought it couldn't get any worse, but it did, 2017 (save the March 11 surprise event). That winter, however didn't sting as bad as it should have given we were coming off a previous winter with an epic snowstorm (Jonas).

No winter will ever be as bad as 2011-12. I dont think there was anything worth tracking all winter !

Lol black ice possible? They made a horrible call. It's 36 across the area. They delayed all the schools in the area for wet roads.
I think the main reason they are so quick to do this now is because they are afraid if a accident happens they could get sued. Also, social media would tear them apart if a accident happened.

We have a freezing fog advisory and all the schools just now decided to close . Wrecks everywhere

Agree with Storm5. They did not make the call to delay in the B'ham area. Then Ice Fog and temps in the upper 20s rolled in between 5:00 and 6:00 AM and now travel is almost not possible due to wrecks. I hope for the school systems that did not delay that all of the children will get there safely. It is always a difficult decision, but with all of the rain we had the past four days, there is seepage in many areas on interstates and side-roads around here.

Dumb question here but did the 93 Blizzard develope is a similar pattern we might have this winter?
Not an expert here but the '93 blizzard was a Triple Phaser: artic jet, pacific jet and subtropical jet that all combined over the se. Not impossible to happen again but not very likely for any given year. Those who know more please correct me if I am making it to simple.

RDU airport now up to 8.9" for the winter and it's only December 11th. Greg Fishel's 5-8" forecast has already busted too low (but may be more accurate for southern and eastern Wake which did not do as well with this storm). Good shot we reach 10 inches for a winter for the first time since 2003-04.

Holy hell 8.9 that’s amazing
