Long story short the wife almost ran over the dog i had my phone in my hand and I went to snag the dog before the tires did . my phone was sacrificed for an old dog that can hear and has trouble seeing

Anyone else on this forum knows what it's like to watch winter storms dance around your area all winter long, while your location just can't buy one? In other words, a winter in which it's basically like you're under a dome? It happened in my location (Nashville) in winter 2008-09 and 2013-14. I imagine everyone in this region has experienced the dreaded snow hole.
2014-15 winter was the absolute worst around here. Feb 2015 in particular. So cold, lots of moisture and practically everyone had snow except folks south of I-20.

An historic storm in parts of the SE US and yet still so much whining. Man this gets tiresome to hear. For those who got nothing wintry (like me as usual but I'm not upset at all), it isn't as if there's some entity that controls the weather. If there was, that would be different. It is essentially random (well that's my belief anyway). And it is only weather for goodness sakes! Nothing tragic. And I love snow! And then those who whine after actually getting some snow but not as much as someone nearby are too much imo. This is not a contest. And then why is it so bad if a location with much lower average annual snow got more than you this time? If I were to get snow in the next few years, I'm going to be tempted to not even post about it. Why even post about something like that when so many feel mad because they think they got robbed?
End of my vent.

Larry,
We'll get ours someday and then the rest can vent! :p
Best!

PS - The entity that controls the weather just kindly allows us to be here to enjoy it ...

Lol its the fact i wasnt there that got me :p.

Lived in alabama all those years and waited for a storm like this

That's kind of why I was so bitter at least

Was a great storm, top 3 for me

1. 2/12/10 - 3.5 inches of snow
2. 1/28/14 - 1 inch snow/accum sleet/ZR
3. 12/8/17 - 1 inch of snow
4. 3/1/09 - Dusting
5. 1/19/08 - Dusting
6. 12/25/10 - Slush

Before 08 I only saw snow once and that was in January 2002

I think it is the top for me. While obviously '93 was a bigger storm, I didn't get to track it and I just remember pieces of it. I'd have to leave it out. My top five.

1. 12/17- 9 to 10 inches
2. 1/14- The Snow jam - 4 inches
3. 12/10- White Christmas - 3 to 4 inches
4. 2/10 - 3 inches - broke a seven year drought of any snow over 2 inches
5. 12/00- 4 inches

I'm glad you're not mad at anybody on here :)

My favorites would be the 1/2000 ice storm, the December 05 ice storm, the February 2016 ice storm the January 2011 snow and this storm.

Got a zippy this go around, but some of my favorties, in no particular order would be:
January 16-17, 2003 (7 inches)
January 22, 2016 (6 inches)
February 16, 2015 ice/sleet storm (about 1 inch of zr/sleet pack in, on ground for a week)
2010 White Christmas (got only about 1.5 inches, but it was on Christmas)
of course, January 7, 1988 (8 inches)

I would've put the 2014 storm at 1b instead of 2 but it seemed like it took forever to changeover. Precip started in the morning as freezing rain then sleet fell and that actually turned the roofs white then the snow finally started at 3 and lasted until 6, first time I ever saw the roads covered with snow.

It's funny that my speculation from November was actually right, but a little disappointing that I missed the real show...by 1 measly day. Still had fun with it and for me snow TV with wet snow sticking in the trees is better than watching it fall tbh. 75 northwest of ATL was very pretty where you could see the trees.

I think my older cousin and his wife actually drove right through this storm yesterday to come to the party we went to tonight and they seemingly did no issue. He's in East NC, so it wouldn't be much different of a Georgia route than us.

I said I wondered if I'd see snow one of the times I went to LaFayette and indeed I did. It was mostly while I was on the road but I did.

funny, 2014-2015 was my first winter in Dallas and one of the best I've seen lol. It's just been trash ever since.

I guess I shouldn't complain too much... last storm in Alabama 1/28/2014 was like the best storm ever in Alabama really(close to jackpot without the disaster of Bham/Atlanta) and then 3/4-3/5/2015 here in Dallas was amazing for about 3 hours in the late evening(heaviest snow I've ever seen) but once the evil sun came up that was over, and it hasn't snowed more than a dusting since...

This is hands down the most beautiful snow ive ever seen. No other snow even close close, although the February 2010 snow was very pretty also.

In other news, Columbia, SC still sucks if you like snow.

Actually, some of the best snows I've witnessed in my life has been within the past decade (2010, 2011, and 2014). Heck! 5 inches probably fell during our March snowstorm earlier this year, but 2-2 1/2 inches stuck.

It was a fluke storm in some parts of the south, but it happens. Just imagine how some folks felt about being left out of some legendary southern snowstorms (ie, February 1973, The Carolina Crusher in January of 2000).

My top 5 storms:

1) December 2017
2) March 1993
3) January 1992
4) January 2011
5) January 2002

1.) ‘93 Blizzard (just for the sheeer spectacle of it all)
2.) Snow Jam ‘82 (two good snows in a week and cold air to lock it all in)
3.) January ‘11 (deformation band dumped five inches in three hours and then the cold came in for a week)
4.) December ‘17
5.) March ‘83 (8” surprise snow overnight)

My top 5 (in no particular order):

1) February 2010 (nearly 9" of snow and it was all SNOW.... Heavy snow for about two hours straight)
2) January 2000 aka "The Carolina Crusher" for several North Carolinian's (caught by surprised, and ended up with basically 6")
3) January 2002 (I believe it was a day after New Year's Day.... A two-part/two-day snowstorm)
4) January 2011 (7" of snow, along with a brief period of sleet)
5) February 1989 (it was late February, and ended up with about 5")

I quit watching the panthers just to see the snow

Yes it's insane... guys are pushing up piles of snow over a foot deep when tackled. That would be great!

My top 5 SN or IP, which were of course dependent on whether I was in ATL or SAV when they occurred:

1. Jan of 1977 in SAV: getting TWO accumulating snows totalling 2.0" (both 0.7"+) in one month in SAV of all places, along with it being the coldest month on record back to 1871, including a 72 hour period of 33 or colder was an experience beyond description. It was 3 colder than an average ATL Jan!
2. Feb of 1968 in SAV, when I woke up to 3.6" of totally unexpected snow as a very young kid. That was then the heaviest there in well over 100 years!
3. Feb of 1973 in SAV, when I woke up to 3.2" of totally unexpected snow as a not as young kid.
4. Jan of 1982 snowjam in ATL: this is obvious. The total SN/IP was large at 7.0" but there was a lot more to it than just the measurement.
5. Feb of 1979 4.2" IP in ATL, my first accumulating IP. I never had any idea IP could add up like that and look so white! And boy did it stick around! 4" of IP is easily comparable to 10" of SN!
6. I have to add #6 so I can include the Storm of the Century, 3/1993, my 1st blizzard (~7-8" on northside of ATL). Again, it wasn't just the large accumulation.

Big storms I missed because I was in the wrong city:
- 12/1989 SAV 3.6": this could easily have been my #1 storm
- 3/1983 ATL: 7.9", ATL largest since 1/1940! But I actually got some token IP in SAV.
- 1/2002 ATL: 4.6"
- 1/2011 ATL: 4.4" SN/IP
- 12/2017 ATL: ~7" northside

Great list! I almost gave an honorable mention to the ‘73 ATL ice storm. No power for 10 days - glad I wasn’t a property owner back then! :)

Y'all keep throwing these three and four letter words around ("ice" and "snow"); not sure what they mean but are they suitable for all audiences? ... LOL ...

I actually think the snow event helped us with Atlanta and Northwest Atlanta burbs driving lol. I-75 was fine and there was much less traffic then normal...presumably (with my thoughts) because most people were like "OMG it just snowed, let's stay in", and because I think the cities were shut down (which likely took some normal traffic off the road).

There was one slow down on the 75/85 connector yesterday but otherwise it was very good traffic!

The Marietta area, almost had a cluster **** during the last storm. At one point their interstate sensors were dangerously close to 32F with pouring snow and lots of traffic.
