Heard the same thing from Glenn Burns about a week ago. I think that as long as you stay on a major highway for most of your trip you should be fine. Areas like Blairsville and mountain communities as well as isolated 1 lane roads probably will have people everywhere and roads plugged. The greatest traffic jam in american history???? He might be over hyping just a bit but I will say this... we received email notification a few weeks back from NCDPS Special Ops about their concerns and I've copied just a portion of the email below. Also it only clips the extreme sw part of our state but they are concerned with massive crowds..... insane. The greatest traffic jam in american history???? Is he related to wxsouth ????![]()

I am planning on staying home for about 5 days to avoid crowded places and the traffic. We are meeting here for a small eclipse party.Heard the same thing from Glenn Burns about a week ago. Key Factors of Concern
•Each county anticipates thousands of tourists
•Traffic is the major concern
•1% of Atlanta’s population anticipated to visit Cherokee County alone
•WCU will have the largest freshman class in history move in that weekend
•Hotels, cabins and campgrounds booked out a year in advance
•Traffic will hinder emergency services to reach those in remote areas
He just won't go away. The greatest traffic jam in american history???? Is he related to wxsouth ????![]()

Saw him in concert in the 70's, great show. He is not suffering from that awful disease anymore.A HUGE name in country/pop music and TV from the 1960's and 1970's, Glen Campbell, passed yesterday at the age of 81. May he rest in peace. Many don't realize that he was a Beach Boy for a period of time.

I've been calling for the eclipse to be cloudy or something for months lmao... my favorite was a hurricane landfall in SC with a band of clouds across the country to Oregon(what Joaquin would have done had it made landfall)
Just curious anyone on here a blacksmith/bladesmith? I've become fascinated with the idea of taking up this hobby
Nice! Why did I think you would be our blacksmith? Lol.... So I've got a million questions haha. Seriously I'd love to try my hand at bladesmith but don't have any of the tools so I'll be starting out from scratch, don't want to throw a ton of money into it until I'm confident I can even do it. Looking at constructing a primitive coal fired forge... any suggestions? I've read up on it, looked at videos seems fairly straight forward at beginner level anyway.... you considered master blacksmith?Yep. Much more blacksmith than bladesmith though.

Yeah I've seen the 55 forge and think this is what I may try, also I've looked at making my own coal have you ever done that? Thanks for the info and the link to the forge forum, checking it out now....Look up the "55" forge made out of an old 55 gallon barrel or brake drum forge. The key is to start as cheap as possible. Buy a cheap ballpeen hammer from Home Depot and a cheap pair of "Channel Lock pliers. Go to a local junk yard and find a good sized piece of steel for an anvil and some junk steel. If scrounged correctly you could probably do it all for less that $50. You will have to find coal, buthe in your area it shouldn't be hard. Buy "blacksmith" coal, not cheap stove coal.
Blacksmithing isn't nearly as hard or mystical as people want to make it. It's a few principles that you do a little more as you learn. So definitely YouTube will help as will finding a local forge group or headin to a local fair or event to talk to a blacksmith and observe.
As far as me being a master, I would barely make begginer.
Good site.

That's great info and thanks! If/when I ever get this up and going I'll submit a pic.....Yeah my coal forge is completely made by myself except for my hand crank blower. Most people prefer a electric blower to feed air, but I like hand cranked because you can feed just the right amount if air. It also helps you to not burn up your work.
Phil needs to move on I guess....Holy hell the greens at the PGA championship are like ice

Given the quality of front facing cameras, you will see very little as it would focus on the light even in totality, not to mention how reflective your screen is.I know you can get glasses to watch the eclipse, and you can make things to see it. But couldn't you just turn your back to it and use the camera on your phone to see it?

On second thought the more I read and look at videos the more I realize there are about a 1000 ways to make your own forge lol.... I'm gonna raid my dad's scrap piles and see what I can come up with. Something to hold the coals, help retain some heat and airflow appears all I really need to fashion a working, although be it somewhat crude, beginner forge. 55 gallon drum may be the way but an old grill or heck even some old disc blades with a little welding might just do the trick.... time to put some country folks can survive ingenuity to workLook up the "55" forge made out of an old 55 gallon barrel or brake drum forge. Allan Huffman @RaleighWxAmerican seems to be down. That place has been a ghost town lately anyway.

Is that place even a forum anymore or is it a troll cave? I remember last winter one guy bragged about winning on a snowstorm and I found that disgusting he created a thread about himself only. There are some horrible mods over there too who can't tolerate a sneeze, but somehow seem to have given up because all they have are troll. Without people, you have no anything. There isn't any real knowledge or learning going around much either.American seems to be down. That place has been a ghost town lately anyway.
