Wintry 1/5-7 Winter Weather

very odd distribution of amounts…around 2” in the Sparta area then it goes to near 4”north/eastern Wilkes County then drops off to 2” Surry i77 then picks up again 3-4” around Mount Airy then drops off again. good zone of 1” amounts and locally more in the Piedmont counties too

Would have been very difficult forecast…Lenoir was mostly rain..Wilkesboro’s mostly a dusting…then quickly jumps up to warning criteria snow north/eastern Wilkes. Apple Maps showing Surry County roads are getting shutdown.

Sleet mixed with snow now in Roanoke. I think if we get back in heavier precip echos it would be snow.
This has been weird for sure. Rates never seemed to match up with radar. Looks like some heavier stuff may come back in here soon and hopefully will still be ok in the temp profile.

Edit: ZR IP mix as this next batch moved in... 💩

So I am in north central Alabama (on Smith Lake). I am beginning to hear chatter of wrap around moisture being able to squeeze out some accumulating snow here. Is anyone seeing any modeling showing this?
PS- I've been a lurker here for years and never commented. Love reading all of your posts.

Ratios were awful for accumulation.

I may have to make some “sales calls” in north Alabama tomorrow afternoon!

Seen models and local Mets discussing flurries and possible snow showers tomorrow but no significant accumulation.

interesting. i didn't think the ice threat would be that large- lack of cad or any sort of cold air feed made me scoff at the ice forecasts
Stronger front end snow has locked in the cold that is why it’s still below freezing in a lot of areas.
