How much you got? Radar looks awesome for GSO...looks like 6"+ easy?

There's just enough juice in this setup from 18-6z that I can't completely give up but it's really fading looking at ir and spc meso

I’m in the county to the south of Greensboro. They always get more somehow. Right around 2” now. The dryslot is just on the east side of the county. I think we should make it from 6-9”. I sure didn’t think that yesterday. Hope that you can cash in with 3+. It sure is beautiful.

Exceeding expectations for accumulations in northern Guilford County, NC (GSO). Radar continues to look good especially for the next hour.
At this point I think Raleigh proper will get a dusting and that would be super annoying...would be like rubbing salt in the wound. Would rather just completely blank.
The kids are devastated so maybe take them to pizza/movies later to cheer them up.
Enjoy the snow! Hopefully you guys can push double digits.
Maybe late February or early March can save us? That window has had some big ones before...

Gotta love having a 20:1 ratio setup with no precipitation.
My odd gripe of the day...
The official snow depth at CHA as of 7:00 am was 1", and all nearby webcams and traffic cams clearly support that. That's cool, all good.
But, I suspect there's a good chance that CHA might get robbed of a decent snowfall in the official climate data. Nearly all the hourly precip obs are showing a Trace, and the storm total shows 0.01". That leads me to believe that "snowfall" is going to show up in the climate data as something much lower than the 1" ob (plus whatever has fallen since then).

This winter better end after Valentines...hoping for a complete furnace into an early spring. This has been the worst winter I can remember...to piss away this great pattern/blocking only to get holed like this.
Fr I’m at NC State and I had to give all my friends a forecast. How in the world was I supposed to forecast this snow hole?

It was showing up days ago synoptically once it looked like there would be separation between the ULL and coastal handoff. A half dozen events in the past 20 years with this exact dry slot pattern and placement.

This is why I always round down and take the model with the least amount of snow. I had said earlier this week that 2-3" would be a great event for us...I never thought we wouldn't see 2". This will be the worst experience with tracking a snow event and we've had a lot of duds.
What good is 20:1 ratios when you don't have precip.

Yep, it has ended here in Clayton. Light flurries and a dusting. What a sad, sad storm here. This one is a heart breaker for sure.

That’s it, I’m driving west to chase it. Maybe my presence there will reorient the dry slot for Raleigh’s benefit.

I got lectured by different folks because raleigh always gets the storms. Those folks are going to get more today than I've gotten since 2015 totaled
This just isn't going to happen in the triangle folks. WRAL says 1-3" tops for our area. Sad situation with these higher numbers that will pile up around us. By the way, radar still not closing in like it was earlier.
The dry slot is very real. Sure snow will move in eventually but it will be as it moves OUT too. So there you go.

You were going off of one or two models when the majority of the models were showing a different solution. That was the point. Those couple of models happen to be right. Good for you for going with the most pessimistic outlook.

Yep. Most of the models that were putting out high precip had precip building and backing NW from the coastal plain late morning into the afternoon. Unless the radar really blooms soon I'm sad

I think this is the one that finally makes me give up on significant snow in Raleigh. I had kind of stopped believing but this one had reeled me back in. Whenever we are in the jackpot area a few days out it ALWAYS and I mean 100% of the time always moves to our North and West. This time the jackpot is to our south and the one time it doesn’t move… I mean you can’t make this up.

I hate weather. But I hope my post doesn’t age well and it’s pouring snow later.
I mean how does Roxboro have 2.5” while we have nothing with this setup? Of all times, this is when we should outperform them, but nope!

Man, I feel so bad for Raleigh weenies.
I feel bad for the coastal boys in the dry slot but if I had a nickel for the amount of coastal scraper snows I’ve tracked that left me high and dry over the last 8 years I’d have enough for another sled to PLAY IN ALL THIS SNOW WITH!
