Misc General Banter Thread

I was just looking and saw some fool reported snow near cumming, ga. And I thought to myself, I wish there was a way to down vote or flag a false report.

And then bam! Somebody plopped a big ‘ole “NONE” on top of it! Whoever you are, I salute you!

Please don’t abuse mping yall.
I absolutely hate it when people do it and do not understand what the meaning of it is. I actually memorized a few spots that like to report fake snow or even hail during most summertime thunderstorms that likely never occurred, and I just don’t get why folks have to screw with obs when you could just be truthful. Not a cloud in the sky and certainly there is not a magic snow squall that has spawned out of clear air over Forsyth.

LLMs have nothing to do with the data provided by WeatherKit (which is the underlying API for the garbage shown in the iOS weather app).

It’s some aggregated junk from various sources. It’s often wrong. And I would hope that everyone knows the app is pretty and has a nice-ish UI. And that’s it. It’s mostly useless for anything specific.

Apple is based in San Jose, CA (Cupertino). They rarely have weather. Please stop asking why apple’s weather app does this and that.
so glad my snark got such a good response! thank you. I use wX + android user which is has just about anything i could ask for.

The problem is that it’s basically the only source of weather info for like, millions of people. It’s just not right.
Can’t disagree there. But the thing to know about Apple is. If it fits 80-90% of use cases, there is zero motivation to change anything.

The only way it will change is if they find some way to add yet another damned thing to services revenue. So Apple Weather+ might be a thing in the future. But until then, it’s garbage and folks should find a better source for forecasts.

It is pretty though. I’d love to see the falling snow in it!

oK. Let’s see. Downloaded.

I’m a mobile app engineer. iOS is my main gig, but I got android too.

I’ll have to poke around it a bit, but it looks like wX is just pulling from the NWS. Not that that is a bad thing. Certainly gonna be better than stupid WeatherKit on iOS.

Sadly. No app can be named “wx” on iOS. Because of literally me. I once had every intention of launching an app called “wx”. Set it up and everything. Long time ago. And Apple won’t let me delete it. It now conflicts with the app name space. So I’m basically name squatting. But unintentionally. Cuz it also won’t let me rename it. App Store Connect and the apple dev portal is such a hot mess.

Stop with the stupid banter please folks. My thread ban button is mighty hungry
He talks about Chris Justice’s dry slot here. But he’s deadly serious there.

Imma have to move to my damned Mac so I can know what thread I’m on.

I tell my close friends and family not to take iOS weather seriously, and they ignore me and check anyway and then ask me about it, especially when it shows a snowflake like 6 days in advance.

Of course, I just checked it now due to reading this discussion and it shows a snowflake wed/thurs. At least now I'm prepared for the inevitable question. 🤷‍♂️

It’s so annoying. And really there is only one mechanism to maybe get things to change.

Encourage folks to submit feedback using this link. Keep it short. Keep it professional. Don’t say how much it sucks with the words you want to use. It’ll just get filtered out, and you’re better off not wasting the time to do it all.

It's like talking to a wall when it comes to people that rely on iOS weather. Last weekend it was showing the temp here as 42 and cloud when it was 29 and freezing rain.

Decisions.

Take the “brain won’t STFU”, emergency ambien? Or stay up?

I know my best shot is only a trace to 1 inch. But I gotta see it fall!

Leaning toward the sledgehammer and forcing sleep.

Yeah, my dad was sitting at my house in southwestern Wake County simply convinced that he had six or 7 inches of snow at his house in North Raleigh and wouldn’t believe me because his weather app told him that much was on the ground. I literally had to pull up there blink camera to show them it wasn’t even covering the grass.

Yall, feeling cathartic this evening. FINALLY, after all these years… AGS has a real shot at 3 inches. First time since 2010. Not looking at models anymore. It’s put up or shut up. GO TIME! Lettts rage!
