Misc General Banter Thread

Something seems wrong with the 3km NAM Pivotal QPF/snowfall maps when it snows in Raleigh for about 4-5 hours, yet it shows zero. It would only take about 0.1" QPF to at least cover the ground.

I would have lost that bet. I just knew it was going to fill in. Ok I’m going to go finish melting down now. Have fun!
Yeah, this really sucks. I thought I had an easy bar or hoping for 2-3” and now there is a legit chance one of us…both of us…get skunked. Oh well…it’s only snow.

I’m going to bed here soon. Now it just hoping we can get lucky with an inch.

I was just looking and saw some fool reported snow near cumming, ga. And I thought to myself, I wish there was a way to down vote or flag a false report.

And then bam! Somebody plopped a big ‘ole “NONE” on top of it! Whoever you are, I salute you!

Please don’t abuse mping yall.

What the heck is wrong with Apple’s weather app? First, last week it was off by like 8° from every single weather station and METAR in town.

Now, it’s showing a reasonable chance of precip tomorrow but saying it’ll be a “wintry mix”. Not a single model supports this.. every single sounding looks like if we get moisture, we’d get all snow. I’m so confused.

But sadly. None doesn’t stick around apparently. Lame.

The Apple weather app is atrocious and I highly recommend ignoring. Last Sunday, it had the current temperature 6-9 degrees warmer than what the official reporting stations were observing throughout the Carolinas and northern GA.

That’s literally what I said in the post you quoted 😁

LLMs have nothing to do with the data provided by WeatherKit (which is the underlying API for the garbage shown in the iOS weather app).

It’s some aggregated junk from various sources. It’s often wrong. And I would hope that everyone knows the app is pretty and has a nice-ish UI. And that’s it. It’s mostly useless for anything specific.

Apple is based in San Jose, CA (Cupertino). They rarely have weather. Please stop asking why apple’s weather app does this and that.

The problem is that it’s basically the only source of weather info for like, millions of people. It’s just not right.
