Wintry Jan 23-27 Winter Storm Obs

Do yall think most of us just avoided our once a quarter century ice event or are we still due?
I think we were very fortunate. I am just a novice so I don’t really know the meteorology involved as far as what happened to lessen our impacts but I’m very happy it did. At least in my area we have benefited from far more sleet the past few times we were facing an ice storm. Eventually we are going to have to pay the piper but for now I am happy it was not as damaging in our neck of the woods. Prayers to those in the much harder hit areas.

I literally just said the same thing to the Wife LoL....and that we were so close to this being a complete disaster for more folks than it was by just a few degrees

well everything has wrapped up here… ended up at 1.1” of sleet/snow with about .2” glaze on top. We definitely dodged a huge bullet in terms of ice. Temperature at 31 now but every thing is iced over. Someone could probably ice skate on the street in front of my house

They have actually issued WWA for N AL for Frz Drizzle and light snow. 25 now in Huntsville. Bham also. I expect it to get a bit thicker into NW GA as the temp falls.

Almost down to freezing here, drizzle has been heavy enough for a slow drip from the gutters all evening long, and paved surfaces are wet, going to be very icy in the morning. The hires models keep the drizzle going here most of the night.

done here. D minus storm, hated the experience

the only saving grace was the thump. snow on weekend nights can't be beat.

too cold. i know some of you sickos love this kind of stuff but personally hope this next threat is closer to the upper 20s

i have about 3 inches of concrete. an inch of snow on 2 inches of sleet topped with a quarter inch of ice. officially 1.19 qpf at kric... not bad. every car driving by sounds like a ship running aground. it's not fun to walk on. i'm still rehabbing from ankle surgery, so no walks with a scotch tumbler with this one. dealing with this is going to be a real pita this week

happy with my sleet call but acknowledging we got lucky. we slipped into an environment that efficiently accrued at the end there. no power concerns, but some trees outside are having chiropractic adjustments

enjoying a steak. onto the next

Interesting in West Georgia it appears areas may have some light misting showers. My wife has a light shower ongoing nothing specifically on radar but I suppose cold front is squeezing every drop of moisture out. Just sorta re-wets surfaces before the cold locks in
Same thing happening in Midtown, misty and foggy. Thankfully we've risen up to 35.1 now so zero worries of anything sticking ha.
