Misc General Banter Thread

What a cold stretch coming up. NBM has our highs staying below 50 until next Saturday and no lows warmer than 24 until then either.

@Mitch West did you get anything down your way?
We got stuff. A light mixture of everything. Now it's freezing rain & a little sleet with this heavy stuff.

But once again, my area missed making the ground white by a county or two. Ready to score. Tired of the wiffs.

Next weekend still looking like there's some potential there for us! ... I will say just south and along i20 needs a bone. Not only is there a snow hole from AGS to CAE... but it's becoming a winter weather hole too... Hoping we can get a bullseye one of these winters!

We need an i20 bullseye, Mitch. It's been exhausting tracking all of these and missing north and south

It has.. trying not to complain but shessh. But the way, did you see what happened for a small area of Aiken this morning? They got like an inch of snow in like a 2 mile radius. A lot of people trying to figure out how it happened, but no one knows.

Yes, sure did. I'm only 15 minutes away in North Augusta so I drove over there with the dog. Very small area, like 2 mile radius at most. A coating to an inch. Literally less than a 2 minute drive from absolutely nothing to winter wonderland. It was the strangest thing. I heard on a local station that NWS CAE said it was not cold all the way through the column, rather a phenomenon that occurs when droplets have a chance to flash freeze again after exiting warm layer... I want to say @Webberweather53 mentioned something like this being possible in areas? Maybe I'm mistaking.... but it was wild looking.

I had 1.5-2 inches last January. Not a bonanza-like storm, but still snow on the ground.

Yeah I was happy with last winter and if the script has finally flipped and you see something with February, I'll have no problems with this winter.

At the very least, we look like we may end up crying uncle on the cold.

Yes, fair. We got about an inch here last year. I was happy with that. Would love to get in on something this year. Beggars can’t be choosers, but hoping for a big one. Seems like we’re due for one of those

I'm making a new New Year's resolution: Only look at this message board 1x per day over the next week to see if anyone has posted weathernext maps. Otherwise go to sleep early, pay attention to my family, exercise, do work, carry on with life as usual...

I don’t understand how Apple weather can say the current temp is 38 when it’s not even close to that per the local stations and even the closest METARs still have 31. Are they just saying their forecasted current temp for this time is the current temp? How is that ok for a weather app?

It had 29 inches of snow in Arkansas last week too cause I remember the posts haha

I tell you what, presuming this isn't coming back south of the most CAD favored areas, they are set up perfectly for the Helene esque surprise from an ice storm in the future.

I saw old mates talking about their concerns about icing yesterday and the EMA had a meeting out of concern. But now it's going to be "ha! we overprepared for nothing."

IMO, the general area used up its 2nd strike here on today lmao. 1/10/25 was a degree or two from being a mess after it snowed and it was extremely hard to stay around and above freezing for the second band for 1/25/26, we were within inches of some of the colder models actually panning out.

3rd attempt might actually be that feared ice storm. Idk if it'll be next year though because we seem to be due for a dud winter involving cold.

Anyway...no noteworthy ice and still a late start for me tomorrow, which is a W. I wasn't thinking so initially, but my first thought was correct.

I'm wondering whether it was a good idea for area schools to announce normal schedule tomorrow at around 11am today. We were forecast to get into the upper 40s/50s and the highest we saw was 35. Now it's back below freezing and raining. The wedge just doesn't want to die.
