Athens/Atlanta ice storm of January 1973Honest Question, what past storms are similar to this in potential setup? The reason I ask is I thought the AI models used past historical data to try and resolve the possible outcomes / scenarios. I don't recall any in the past 20 years that i have been following or learning.
In about 9 hours, it's going to be lit up in brilliant light from a nearby sun.Can someone let me know what it’s going to do in my backyard please? I need to know right now

Careful running a gas stove. I know someone that did that during a multi day outage. Thankfully it ended only with a detector going off.You have to calculate how many watts the devices you plan on connecting that will be on at the same time. Same with extension cords. 16 ga is the cheapest and will handle things like a microwave. 14ga or 12ga for electric heaters.
For heating, you would be better off getting a propane indoor heater.
I have natural gas and will just use the stove and the antique space heater in my man cave to heat the house.
If you have the funds for room and board and are okay leaving your house & stuff behind for a while, I'd 100% go play in the snowHypothetically if the euro is right. Trying to decide if I want to potentially witness a crippling ice storm in the north ATL metro or head north and see a foot of snow but maybe get stuck for days lol.
Already thought this through. Anything historical at home and in here for itHypothetically if the euro is right. Trying to decide if I want to potentially witness a crippling ice storm in the north ATL metro or head north and see a foot of snow but maybe get stuck for days lol.

i've thought about this. my biggest issue has always been less experienced model viewers chiming in with conflicting interpretations of what a model run is doing. maybe a badge system of "model commenters" could be helpfulWe have actually been discussing this among staff.
2 ideas so far
A imby thread where folks can ask questions
A model run thread where the runs are discussed
Let us know what you guys think or if you have other ideas
This feels like copium from the PA weenie
I'll put in a good word for you. This is how I’m leaning but if we can trend our area to at least some backside snow then I’m all for it. Just nothing pretty about ice
The arrogance from people who live in more climate-friendly areas towards those who don't never ceases to amaze me
I annoy him from time to time and he rarely replies. Probably should stop but it’s fun because his entire forecasting mindset is whatever favors him. Bad meteorology in my opinion.I can’t stand this guy and he’s somehow popped up on my TL, guess it’s the algos

I dunno. I’m hoping the ice storm of death is just fantasy. But if it’s not. You’d not only be stuck, but you’d be away from your property. It’s not always easy to get back in after the fact. I’m not far from you, and I’m going nowhere. I’m hoping the snow comes our way. Lol. Doesn’t sound like it, but who knows?Hypothetically if the euro is right. Trying to decide if I want to potentially witness a crippling ice storm in the north ATL metro or head north and see a foot of snow but maybe get stuck for days lol.

I really, really, really, would like to see the Euro suite move more towards the GFS with colder flatter look for snow over ice. It has been stubbornly consistent with the skating rink idea; gotta fix that.

Where's the pine tree react emojiI can smell Sunday morning already
I lived through the 1994 Mississippi ice storm. No power for over a week. We had a very old house with gas heaters in every room so we were very fortunate to stay warm. I only remember being stuck inside and the silence until all the pecan trees started popping. I never want to see that again. Also pulling for this trend. I’m 31 and have never lived thru a horrible ice storm, but my Dad has and he’s told me they aren’t fun in any way.
What does it smell like, a rose or a skunk? Inquiring minds want to knowI can smell Sunday morning already

That was a really nasty one. I was in Evans at the time and we had to store our refrigerator items out in a pile of sleet because we had no power for days. We could hear pine trees breaking like shotgun blasts in the dark. It was cold because our fireplace wouldn't light. I never want another ice storm like that, but it looks like we might get one.Feb 2014
