It has been nice to see a more southern trend for folks who want more sleet and snow vs ice.. but this image is 140 hours out and whether we like it or not the swing south will eventually swing the other way as we get closer (and swing back again potentially approaching go time)

What we know for sure is a major winter storm is coming. People in the south need to prepare for a major ice storm (worst case) just in case trends don’t go your way. But also buy sleds incase the best case scenario happens with snow sleet.

To be in a situation this far out where so many precip types are at play… it’s going to be nauseating model watching the short range models as we get closer lol

I still lean ice storm for southern NC, SC, GA
Going to be hard to escape that for those areas.

Don’t mean to get repetitive here, but you can amp up all you want, if you continue to strengthen that SE Canada vortex, you can arguably snow/sleet more even with a amped up solution. Notice how it’s slowing. The Arctic high pressure also in result is trending stronger

At this point, it IS Possible for it to go more suppressed, but I wouldn't expect it to suppress all the way into the gulf. 'Most suppressed' scenario IMO is still snowy/icy for many. just with the heaviest snow falling along i20 instead of i40.

It doesn't have to be a completely no ice situation...just one where we might get a quarter of the inch or so instead of an inch or more of it. I don't expect any solution will be all snow for Atlanta...we're just too far south.

This really looks like January 1988 but more everything. More cold air, more moisture, more warm advection, etc.

My opinion from this morning is unchanged and honestly I feel better about it since we’ve trended stronger with the 50/50. I think the 85 corridor will have a great chance to be snow for a long portion of this storm before switching to sleet and maybe ending with some light ZR.

Regardless what happens, if you are in any of these areas that show snow or ice, you gotta prepare very soon. Yes, there are failmodes and i stated that earlier. However, if the failmodes fail, then you've got an ultimate winter storm with a polar vortex coming in behind it. The potential of this ice storm would knock out power grids for knows how long, then get super cold. Prepare sooner rather than later. This can still fail, but its increasingly less likely.

Man, this really looks like a truly legendary setup.

You don't see ones like this very often at all. Maybe a few times in a career where you'll see this quantity of cold air couple to a strong enough subtropical jet/southern stream wave over the SW US to back it up. Most of us on this board are long overdue for it.
