Just knowing how models handle CAD, we need to pray for deeper cold to get sleet.
The good news is that I think the models tend to overdo the ZR and underdo the IP in such setups. I’d personally expect more sleet compared to freezing rain than the verbatim maps show. Plus, of course, 1” ZR liquid doesn’t translate to 1” of accrual.Just knowing how models handle CAD, we need to pray for deeper cold to get sleet.
I survived this morning. At some point an honest conversation needs to be had around here regarding who has actually lived through a high impact winter storm.
I don't live in GA.At some point an honest conversation needs to be had around here regarding who has actually lived through a high impact winter storm.

I have never feared more for my safety during any event like December 20022002 ice storm. 2-3 inches of snow and over a solid inch of ice on top from freezing rain. I remember it pouring rain at 19 degrees. Green light explosions of transformers blowing during the night. No power for a week. My wife freaks out any time there's a possibility of an ice storm. I hope that was a once in a lifetime event.
As someone in the industry, I can promise they weren’t too sluggish with repairs. When you get a storm that affects an entire region, your basin of help gets really narrow and thin because every utility is in the same boat you are. In good conditions, it takes a crew hours to replace and rewire a pole - even longer if it’s a three phase setup. Multiply that by hundreds, if not thousands during major storm events and that’s why it takes a long time. Also those guys can’t be rushed. One false move and you don’t come home. Not as bad as January 2000/December 2002. Lights were out for a week. CP&L was too sluggish with the repairs.
Was only 12 years old with a large pine tree next to my bedroom. Heard limbs hitting the house all through the night and the lights went out around 2 or 3 am. Didn’t come back on for a week. I remember listening to a portable radio with my parents the next morning and the folks on WBT saying the power outages throughout the metro area were substantially higher than Hugo.I have never feared more for my safety during any event like December 2002
Ive been through 3. Week plus no power all 3.At some point an honest conversation needs to be had around here regarding who has actually lived through a high impact winter storm.

i really hope the people who are wishing for ice get it; so they can see how miserable things are and they will never wish for it again
i really hope the people who are wishing for ice get it; so they can see how miserable things are and they will never wish for it again. i am praying for colder push and suppression at this point, no way i want the ice
In all fairness don't we say this about every juicy pattern that's two to three weeks out, and the vast majority of them never amount to anything. At least we had a good chase with this past systemLet's hope the joke isn’t on us for the threat at the end of the month. The models are really honking for a solid winter storm.
It's not the ice. It's the outage/shutdown.i really hope the people who are wishing for ice get it; so they can see how miserable things are and they will never wish for it again. i am praying for colder push and suppression at this point, no way i want the ice
The storm that shall not be named. 1993. And Hothlanta (2011). And some 80s ones, but I was young and don’t recall specifics. At some point an honest conversation needs to be had around here regarding who has actually lived through a high impact winter storm.

I wouldn't worry to much about semantics 7 days out. It is still far enough out to be rain or sunny and 60. Just enjoy reading these guys breakdowns for a few days. Are temps a problem GA this time around or would it still ice/snow with what its showing currently?
