Pattern July Fry and Dry

We’re getting blasted with a thunderstorm now! 3rd day in a row with a storm.

Edit: The total for this day (7/11) ended up being ~2.8” with most of it falling in just over 1 hour. That brought 3 day totals to ~4.8”! The flooding in many areas of midtown and the southside was bad.

The flooding on my street (annd andjacent sidewalk) and into my property was the worst so far this year. Much of backyard (especially from back portion into patio) as well as frontyard (courtyard and in front of garage) was flooded.

The garage held up through most of it until the flooding in the yard in front of it appeared to have forced water to surge inside between the foundation and the bottom of the wall as I didn’t see any leaking at the ends of the garage door. Despite my push brooming a lot of water out, it was relentless and kept coming back and eventually spread all of the way over to the storage room on the other side!

I also had the most I can ever remember in my foyer from rain splashing and/or blowing into my front door. I had a puddle that soaked a portion of the rug.

I tell you what, the thunder all week this week has been very nasty involving the storms.

Just had another strong storm at the house this week about an hour and a half ago (only the second), and if this one's total wasn't close to a 1" in the rain gauge, I will definitely be very confused.

Interesting . I saw the young guy, Augustus, interviewed on the Shawn Ryan show. Kid is smart and talked a lot about the amount of regulations involved with cloud seeding.

Keep in mind, 72 days till fall!
Only 72 more times we gotta deal with storms. Think happy thoughts.
As of the past few years here in Wake County, North Carolina, fall hasn't really begun until October at the earliest temperature wise. I am a deer hunter (I like to go out in the woods to at least see what's happening) and the first day of deer season which is around October 15th every year has seen highs in the eighties and lows in the sixties which used to be a normal summertime day when I was growing up. I do not like to swat mosquitoes and gnats when I am trying to hunt.

After 2 days in a row of strong late afternoon/evening T storms and 3 days in a row of storms at some point in the PM (~4.8” total for 3 days) it is doing it again. Crossing my fingers the amounts today won’t be too high as I had flooding in my garage yesterday from a high water table (and also water blew in underneath my front door into my foyer).

Edit: Fortunately, I was more on the N edge of the heaviest and the heavy didn’t last nearly as long. After this ended, another period of light to moderate came a little later. I ended up with a manageable ~0.80” in total on this day (7/12) bringing my 7/9-12 total to ~5.6”! Total MTD is ~6.5”.

The street and yards had started to flood again but the much shorter duration prevented more problems. Had it rained just another inch or so, it very likely would have lead to another big mess.

Parts of the area from Montgomery to Skidaway Island got pummeled on 7/12 with ~3.5” per the 7/13 CocoRahs map that covers the prior 24 hrs!

Another pretty strong storm today. If this one isn't the one that pushes at least towards 1" total wise on this rain gauge (.42" yesterday lmaoo)...man idk.

I'm almost tempted to walk to the backyard when this fully wraps up, but there's spiderwebs everywhere, so I probably won't.

I like these storms, but the thunder has continued to be pretty loud. Maybe, maybe just "slightly" subdued compared to the week.

Goose is now cooked. PAIN

What do you mean or what are you talking about with this goose is cooked saying? They’re afternoon pop ups, which happen during the summer. If your anxiety is that high I suggest seeking professional help and medication!

I already have a counselor and a psychiatrist. Thanks anyways
I am scared of storms as they cause power outages, which makes my memory from Florence very clear.

@jeremyt Florence caused me to be deathly afraid of hurricanes and severe thunderstorms.
Even though I am not afraid of severe weather and its consequences. I understand how negative experiences with events that are traumatic to someone can install a fear that can stick with someone long after. I have been afraid of heights ever since a fall out of a barn hayloft when I was a kid.

1.93" yesterday with the two storms, so...turns out, the rain gauge is not broken (edit: the estimate involving snow in January was still definitely wrong though with it having been dry snow), I just overestimated things lmaooo.

I can vouch for @snowc a little bit and say that some of the storms in the last week have been a little surprising for me and a former schoolmate who's currently in Hilton Head. It's because the thunder has been loud. There was one case earlier in the week where I had just plugged a device up and then turned around and unplugged it 5 minutes later due to that.

I've actually had two lightning strikes really mess with the electricity here. One fried just about everything electrical in this room I'm sitting in and one took out the power very locally (we really do hypothesize that the power stayed on for most of this road, but for a few houses, it went out for a while after I saw what looked to be lightning flash into this room).

Gap in coverage over much of the Carolinas 85 corridor from convective debris that hung on much of the morning slowing down development. Mountains and eastern Piedmont/coastal plain able to get going already though

Watching the development of the showers and thunderstorms over Wake, Franklin, Nash and surrounding counties reminds me of an object hitting water and the waves that spread out in all directions after impact. Upper level steering is non existent over Central and Eastern North Carolina today. I would expect a flash flood warning for the area that has been sitting under the center of this development if it hasn't already been issued. It is very easy to pick out the outflow boundaries.
