Energy stuff ain’t my forte, but short term can’t Europe just born more coal?
Not so easy if they dismantled their coal burning power plants. China can get a new coal fired plant up and running in a few months, though. So, if the incentive is there, they can get something done by next winter, maybe? It's a bit crazy to think of it, but Russia invading Ukraine might be the necessary incentive to stop the foolish no-carbon energy policy, world-wide.Energy stuff ain’t my forte, but short term can’t Europe just born more coal?
Make no mistake these sanctions are going to be a punch in the gut plus it's targeted toward the oligarchs who in return may put the pressure on Putin to lossen the screws a little per se.So, all of Biden's warmongering talk failed. Russia can avoid most sanctions thru China and the ones they cant wont last long at all.

Oh I agree they have the cash reserves too. They've pulled billions out since late last year in foreign currency. The sanctions are not perfect but we have very few options it's a very delicate situation to say the least. After listening to Putin's speech I also question his state of mind currently.I disagree. Not that Germany said F your pipeline I think he only has one option at this point which would be to invade. History shows he doesn't give two ----- about the Russian economy or the Russian people

I just dont think the sanctions will matter much at all and they wont last long in any case. Lets not forget the Biden/Obama admin was in charge when Putin began carving up Ukraine and took Crimea. We gave Ukraine some worthless guarantees of safety and now we have a new cold war.Make no mistake these sanctions are going to be a punch in the gut plus it's targeted toward the oligarchs who in return may put the pressure on Putin to lossen the screws a little per se.
This isn't going to end by sanctions alone and I think our Western leaders already know this.
I think our options are very limited. Its too late now of course but we should have spent the last 7 years arming Ukraine with state of the art weapons. In the end we are going to have to accept we can do almost nothing now. What are we supposed to then if sanctions don't work? Start WW3 by going into a hot war with Russia? Russia does have over 6,000 nuclear weapons and so does the US. More than enough to destory the entire world.
Or since we don't need their carbon based energy Russia has no power on the global stage anymore. Not so easy if they dismantled their coal burning power plants. Wars have been fought for lesser things. Unless things deescalate quickly, there will not be any off-ramps out of this. When one looks at human history, you have to admit that it's only a matter of time before nuclear powers face off directly in a military conflict. What are we supposed to then if sanctions don't work? Start WW3 by going into a hot war with Russia? Russia does have over 6,000 nuclear weapons and so does the US. More than enough to destory the entire world.
We have been supplying them with massive military aid packages.I think our options are very limited. Its too late now of course but we should have spent the last 7 years arming Ukraine with state of the art weapons. In the end we are going to have to accept we can do almost nothing now.
NoNot to get political here but could you imagine how much more tense things could be if our last president was in office? I feel like we would have attacked first and even double downed on taking back Crimea out of spite. What a time to be alive
Dude, we don't want Cuba. That would be such a huge liability. I would trade Puerto Rico to Russia for Eastern Ukraine, though. If US took Cuba who would stop us no one would see it coming
